Would like to use GBPVR as video streaming front end for the Hauppauge MVP.
Perhaps at some point I will upgrade my Leadtek TV2000 to Hauppauges 150. However for now I would like to store my "backed-up'd" DVD'S on a server, and stream them to a TV using a wired ethernet connection.

I plan to download GBPVR this week, however I thought I would ask the question..............will GBPVR work as I described above without a supported MPEG2 hardware based TV.

Does GBPVR require a hardware MPEG2 encoder??

Regards

You can use GB-PVR without a capture, but obviously you miss out on many of the useful features. You can watch DVDs etc if you're using it one your PC. There are also some plugins which allow you to watch DVDs on the MVP, but you dont get DVD menus etc.

If you want to record TV, then the answer is generally yeah. You might be able to get your card to work with this plugin: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=2753, but in general its preferrable to have supported card so that things work (and so you'll get help if you've got questions).

It it great for that alone! If you want, you can fake in a recording source, just to get an on screen guide on the MVP. Use the Video Archiver Plugin, and it can make MVP compatable mpeg2 files from DVDs, and you can use GBPVR to play them on the MVP!
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

Thats what I'm looking to do, the GUI on GBPVR seems more user friendly and informative than Hauppauges. Saw a Kaleidescape system @$30k USD (really cool - worth more than my car) nice front end, however waaaaaaaaaaaay over my budget.

Thanks
Rick
