Hi sub,
I have been using the new dll for 2 days and now I’m able to answer my own question.

The original problem with Windows going to sleep while streaming is solved.

My question was:
Does it have any side effects eg. does it only keep the pc awake while streaming or recording which would be the ideal behaviour, or does it keep the pc awake as long the LibreELEC with the NextPVR client is turned on?

My answers
It does not only keep the pc awake while streaming TV shows from NextPVR. It keeps Windows awake as long as the LibreELEC/KODI client is turned on.
Also, for example, when you  are streaming a film from a NAS server that has nothing to do with NextPVR.
A special thing is if you pause while you are streaming from NextPVR and wait the Windows Idle timeout period, it actually goes to sleep. But if you stop the streaming, Windows will stay awake.

Is that the expected behaviour?

I have attached the relevant logfile. Look for:

Start streaming: 2022-09-25 11:21:28.860 [DEBUG][6] About to stream recording
Pause at LibreELEC client: around 11:29
Windows goes to sleep as expected 5 min later: 2022-09-25 11:34:15.446 [DEBUG][40] [Suspend]
No activity concerning NextPVR at around: 11:42
Windows goes to sleep: 2022-09-25 11:47:22.944 [DEBUG][8] [Suspend]
But resumes: 2022-09-25 11:48:18.168 [DEBUG][3] [Resume]

Nothing that I'm aware of.

It'll only keep the machine awake while recording or streaming. ie, when you see those "PowerManagement PreventStandby..." messages in the log, it's telling Windows the machine is still in use. It won't try to keep it awake just because a client is connected (you'll stop seeing those messages if you're not recording/streaming).

If you pause for an extended time, yes your machine will probably go to sleep (it'll be blocked in a network send call, and I wont have the ability to call the power management call). Honestly though, I'd only suggest a 5 minute time out when you're testing stuff. In the normal usage, you'd probably have a more realistic timeout, like maybe 30 minutes or 45 minutes or something. Personally, I dont' even bother. I just leave my machine awake - I want it to be available whenever I need it.

If you look in the log from my latest post:

No activity concerning NextPVR at around: 11:42
Windows goes to sleep: 2022-09-25 11:47:22.944 [DEBUG][8] [Suspend]
But resumes: 2022-09-25 11:48:18.168 [DEBUG][3] [Resume]

Can you see why the machine resumes?

One of reasons why I don't want my PC to run without a purpose, is because energy prices in Europe has raised to 5 times the price last year.

NextPVR does two things with power management

1) while it's awake, and it wants it to stay awake, it tells Windows the machine is still in use. These are the "PowerManagement PreventStandby" log messages. When your machine is asleep, NextPVR isn't actively running, so obviously not doing these.

2) when it knows it's going to need the PC to be awake at some future time, like when a recording is due to start, or at EPG update time, it'll schedule a wake up. You'll see these in your logs with messages that say start with "Requesting wake up " (and time for the wake etc).

ie, it didn't schedule a wake up for 2022-09-25 11:48:18, so I have no idea what might have caused it to wake up at that time. Maybe network activity from the client is enough for Windows to keep your machine awake, or it's doing wake-on-lan or something.

I have had the same ongoing problem and the new .dll seems to have solved it! Thank you Sub!!!
Even with prior NextPvr versions, server was going to sleep (set to 2 hours sleep delay) if a recording completed then as soon as comskip finished, the server slept if I was streaming somthing on Kodi (disk activity). With the new .dll server stays awake and streaming on Kodi if a recording and comskip completes. Thank you!!!!
As always, you are appreciated and well admired at our house. And thanks to all who contribute here.
