We tried knewc quite a while back, but I can't remember why we stopped using it. Sad I'd have to try it again to refresh my memory.

It's gone through some changes, and it is definitely not as good if you are in Windows and not using a remote because of focus issues using a mouse during playback

I'd suggest you give uidroid a try. You get the exact same user interface. And if you don't already have any Android TV based devices, you can generally pick up a TiVo Stream 4K for $30 or an ONN Streamer for $20. Personally, I'd go for the TiVo because the numbers on the remote are very useful with NextPVR.

Thanks for the tip.  Since the HTPC is already sitting in the corner of the living room, we've been using that for everything for many years. (NextPVR, Netflix, Hulu, etc.)  In the V4 and V5 days, just running NextPVR.exe on that system to view shows worked awesome.  Something in V6 broke it and I changed settings in LAV Filters so many times, trying to get it to play nice, but the stuttering and sync issues persisted at every comskip jump.  The recordings play perfectly in Kodi (with the NPVR AddOn), but wow, Kodi leaves me wanting in so many other ways.

Why does Kodi insist on listing recordings from newest to oldest?  In what universe would one want to see the latest episode before the earlier episodes?  I can change it (for EVERY series), but if we watch and delete all of the episodes in a series, then Kodi resets the default sort the next time it creates a folder for that series.  Ugh!

We use the remote for everything, but if there's a way to delete a recording that was just watched with the remote, we sure haven't found it.  Have to grab the keyboard every time.

Don't even get me started about how twitchy the menus are when using a mouse/trackpad...

But, I digress.  Wink

Recording sort  in Kodi PVR is more powerful and more configurable than NextPVR.  I thought that it had the same default as NextPVR but you can change the default I use episode descending but each folder is different and unlike NextPVR it doesn't change the default when you change one view

In addition to better episodic sorting you get

- partial watch indicator
- mark watched
- season folders
- folder level actions for delete watch and unwatch
- great new feature to continue watching from the top level to the next show not fully watched
- in progress works

If sub's player UI wasn't so brilliant with the remote I'd be hard pressed to not use Kodi

Please explain how to change the default sort AND make it stick.  I've searched through the settings screens until I'm blue in the face.  For example, I can change the sort order for NCIS to sort with the oldest show at the top of the list.  That will stick, but only until all of the shows have been watched and deleted.  The next time NCIS starts new episodes, Kodi will create a new NCIS entry, and once again, sort them with the newest show at the top of the list.  Why is that the system default recording sort (and more importantly, why can't the user change it?).  Who would ever want to watch a season from oldest to newest?  I don't mind oddball defaults but they should at least let the user easily modify them.

I actually wanted to add the default sort management to an option in pvr.nextpvr but I was told official addons can't do the :-(

You didn't check the Kodi wiki https://kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings....recordings  Rather then posting here I found more information on this feature after I posted on the Kodi forum https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=357970 and since there are a lot of tweaks to the GUI that I always make.  For using Kodi you are much better using Kodi resources. It probably was easier for me to find though since I added the feature to Kodi https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18605

I guess I am an oddball because I keep all episodes of shows I watch so the newest to oldest is important to me.  I like the outermost sort different too and I manipulate it a lot oldest first to clean up, name sort most often and sometimes newest first.  NextPVR forces me to keep these the same.

Thanks Martin, while that really took the long way home, Kodi does finally sort the way that I want it to!  Smile

The Wiki shows that the userdata folder in Windows is located at %appdata%\Kodi\userdata\ but it is really located at %appdata%\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\ on my system.  It's listed incorrectly on the page at: https://kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings....recordings and on the page at: https://kodi.wiki/view/Userdata

Is there a way to submit errata to the wiki?

I still think that your idea of having a default sort option in the pvr section would be VERY helpful is far better than creating a folder and an .xml file and then editing the file.  Non-nerds must really suffer with Kodi.  Wink

You must have one heck of a NAS to save everything that you record.  There just isn't much on TV that I am that interested in keeping around.

I keep everything mainly for testing NextPVR, and I only have 2TB for NextPVR.

For me the wiki is correct, the %appdata% environment variable is correct and cd %appdata%\Kodi\userdata takes me to the correct folder.

With the new Continue Watching option in Nexus you actually don't even need to go into the child folders, that is why I added this as as wishlist for NextPVR.
