Does the web admin run off a DLL? So we can't just make changes to the ASP files we would also have to rebuild the DLL correct?

Correct...if you change the aspx file you should recompile...theortically I think you could do some things in the aspx file without recompiling but you can't add fields or anything.

the only way i am able to play programs from a remote computer via web admin is by downloading the .m3u file, then opening it in notepad, then copying the url from that m3u file into explorer and saving it or opening it.
not sure if this is the proper way to do it...
but ok it works. the problem is that downloads are way to slow. like unacceptably slow. they dont seem to move at all.

how can i set this up properly? i use zone alarm, but download speed does not change when zone alarm is running or not on my home computer. i use norton but it is set to ignore my recordings directory. i own a linksys router but it is not currently hooked up (direct cable modem connection).
Should i have the router hooked up? If so, do i need to set something up in to speed things up? I do not know much about router settings, and would appreciate some help in noob terms. thanks very much.

For best performance install VLC (Open Source Media Player). Make sure that the .m3u files get assicuated to it rather than MS Media Player. Then when you click on the play button via the Web Admin you should get a dialog box asking to save or open....select to open it. It should start palying via VLC.

I recommend VLC since it can stream the video much better than MS Media Player can.

I read through all 45 pages of this thread and unfortunately didn't get a definitive answers for what I was looking for. I was getting a little groggy at the end so I apologize in advance if I missed it...

Also, I haven't installed the Enhanced Web Admin yet, not knowing if it fits my needs, so if it's something that's obvious (like the live tv question), I apologize again.

Here's my questions:
-- I saw that recorded programs can be viewed using VLC. Does VLC have to be setup on both the client pc and the gbpvr server? It looks like it only needs to be setup on the client pc, but from reading yet another 50 pages on the VLC site, it sounds like they require VLC to be running on the server in streaming mode so the client can connect to it. Or is this something completely different?

-- Can I view Live TV using the Enhanced Web Admin? I found the ExternalRecorder plugin -- can this be used to continuously record to a file that can then be viewed (via VLC) by clicking a button in Enhanced Web Admin?

-- Can the Enhanced Web Admin tell gbpvr to change channels (if viewing Live TV is possible)?

Thanks!

Hello,

As this is my first post here I'd like to start with congratulating Sub and this community for a very nice piece of software. I am using GBPVR with the mediaMVP since August to great satisfaction (apart from the "connecting servers" issue of the MVP).

I also searched for the solution stream over the network to other PC's. After noticing that when starting a recording from the webadmin (normal or enhanced does not mater) GBPVR perfectly streams the show, but most players fail to play the show untill they start playing when the stream is complete (hence this takes just as long as the show). VLC however plays the show perfectly as of the start.Smile . You are right saying that you only need the VLC player on the client machine. GBPVR (or its webadmin) does the streaming perfectly.

As to your other questions live TV is "possible" trough starting a recording and then watching the in progress recording. channelchanging is however not possible this way.

Regards
Koen
