Well, I recieved my replacement ATI 550 card (powercolor) and set it to record last night's Daily Show. When I watched the recording today, the sound suddenly cut off two minutes into the broadcast and remained off for the duration.

I have done a little trouble shooting and have found that the same occurs when watching live TV and also when using the provided cyberlink powercinema software. Therefore it is not an issue with gbpvr, but perhaps with the ATI driver? It seems very strange to me that it would work normally and then stop suddenly. If I restart the program the cycle repeats.

any thoughts?

Yeah, it sounds like flakey ATI drivers.

i submitted a ticket with ATI tech support. Any thoughts on how I might work around this in the mean time? perhaps I'll try an older driver.

At Last!

I spent some time with ATI and powercolor tech support. They finally settled on reinstalling windows. This option did not appeal.

As a last hope I spent thirty minutes or so staring at the task manager process list while restarting GBPVR live TV to try and narrow down which process was activating when the sound cut out. the offender-

WINDOWS MESSENGER!

After some hunting I found out how to uninstall this garbage and now everything works perfectly. Perhaps this would also have been fixed by reinstalling windows, but this way I save myself a few days of agony and get rid of an annoying bit of software (along with all the MSN crap) to boot!

I thought i should post this just in case anyone else comes across this problem.

now to get on with learning the ins and outs of GBPVR
