FFMpeg and Vaapi acceleration

Hello, I would just like to post about a situation I had while installing on Debian 12.
I use an USB HDMI capture device as an extra and ffmpeg utilizing intel hardware acceleration via vaapi.
I had to add the user nextpvr to the render group as ffmpeg was failing to open the /dev/dri/renderD128 driver.

Maybe it was just my setup, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The deb installer doesn't add a users to the render group. Typically you often need to do more than adding a user to the render group to get vaapi working but I can still do that, like I do for the audio and video groups, next time I update the deb file.

During my testing my ffmpeg command would fail from the command line unless i used sudo.
Once I added myself and nextpvr to the render group the command would work fine.
BTW it was on a clean Debian 12 install.

For Debian 11 I have user nextpvr and myself added to the render group as well. I think only nextpvr user is needed for the NextPVR VAAPI Video Encoder setting.

Also, needed to install the correct driver for my CPU for VAAPI. Possibly Debian 12 already has those drivers installed.

I had added myself and nextpvr to the render group. You would need to do this to use vaapi on command line tool testing like the OP pointed out.

You would still have to install the non-free intel drivers in Deb 12.
