NextPVR on Ubuntu 22.04

unfortunately i dont understand how dpkg does its thing with a *.deb file. Looking at the contents of the *.deb file it is VERY useful to check file permissions but I cant see any 'commands' to do anything. Its is the best picture of the file structure as it should be when installed. Can I manually place the files shown in the deb file tree in the appropriate folders?

Feel free to do what you want. I can't understand why it it not writing to /tmp and I am not about to change the way things works without a good reason. It didn't change for V6 and it does work for others.

Good luck, maybe you locked down /tmp which you could check with

stat /tmp/

Access: (1777/drwxrwxrwt) Uid: ( 0/ root) Gid: ( 0/ root)

Instruction for a manual install are here https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/Lin...al.install If you install dotnet to /opt/dotnet and unzip NPVR.zip to /opt/nextpvr/system instead of /home/user/NPVR the service might work.

Found the problem. The snap version of curl WILL NOT WORK FOR INSTALLING NPVR. The apt 'version' works flawlessly. I even did a complete machine wipe and tried the snapd version again with exactly the same results. The really good news is simply remove the snapd version, (sudo snap remove curl), then install the apt version,(sudo apt install curl) and run the script (sudo dpkg -i nextpvr-helper.deb). It installed perfectly, twice. Perhaps a warning for unsuspecting users that snapd curl will NOT work.

OK thanks for the update and I will update the wiki. I actually read the stuff about curl confinement yesterday but since the wiki noted to use use apt I didn't think to ask how you installed it when you said it worked from the command line as sudo. I figure most users avoid snap for reasons like this.

im far from a skilled linux user but avoiding snapd installs is now mandatory in my world. The snapd version of curl has a problem writing to /tmp. It creates a folder under /tmp called snapd-tmp-npvr something so of course anything in a sub folder on tmp is never found. FWIW all the files that should have been in /tmp were in the /tmp/snapd-tmp-npvr folder, dpkg just couldnt, and shouldnt have found them. No if I could only remember how to set up to auto create xml.bat using zap2xml, its been awhile since I needed to install it and I cant seem to get the json/perl files installed, no directions. But thats another topic. Thank you again for your help.

I did some more checking and installed curl with snap and the command you said worked with curl didn't work for me. For me even standalone curl is writing to

/tmp/snap-private-tmp/snap.curl/tmp

I might change the installer to look for those rather than forcing the user to not use snap and save some support posts

Great thanks. There is a new deb installer that hopefully fixes the issue. If you have any free time, uninstall curl and reinstall the snap version temporarily and test and see if it works with your set tup. Remove dotnet-install.sh and NPVR.zip from /tmp (as sudo) and the see if it all goes well.
