Is there a way to get this setting in? Do I have modify something? The only way I can do this is through a Postprocessing file but I would like NextPVR to do the dirty work instead (and this will enable me to just run comskip)

To send to where?

For the most part, the transcoding is used for delivering video to the web app, so that video can be display in the browser. I think the only browser that natively supports HEVC is Safari, so it didn't seem useful to do that.

EDIT: ah, you mean recordings, rather than streaming live tv or recordings... (wasn't quite awake when I originally read this)

Does comskip even handle HEVC recordings with reasonable speed? Testing ATSC 3.0 has been quite disappointing, but that could be AC-4

Yep. The newer versions handle hevc with ease.

You might have to convert the audio from AC4 first or compile comskip against a modified version of ffmpeg with ac4

Haha...yeah, that's what I meant. I know the app could do pretranscoding after the recording is done. I was hoping for a function to pretranscode to hevc instead of h264 (like emby and plex has)

It can't currently, but I am in the process of looking at a few things related to transcoding, so I'll keep this request in mind.

You can't since the built in transcoding and Post Processing are mutually exclusive.    The purpose of the built in transcoding is primarily to make web player compliant video not to provide a transcoding engine, the solution right now is one size fits all and you'd be better off with post processing anyway.

Seriously consider AV1 over HEVC if you want browser support.

Sorry, I've intentionally not done anything on this front.

For the most part the transcoding functionality in NextPVR is about getting content into a format that can be easily consumed by web clients. Unfortunately HEVC support is still not universal in web browsers, so I've just stuck with H264 at this stage (which is universally available).
