Lots of channels no TV and No EPG (Freesat over SAT>IP)

There is no reason that all scanned channels will play well when you are receiving signal designed for other areas.

Channel 4 and their children are on multiple TSID and Channel IDs which might be the source of the problem

If that is the issue you probably have missing data on ITV1 and others.

If you get a chance, it’d be good if you could delete your channels and rescan, then supply your npvr.db3. There is an additional item of data I’m now storing for channels from OpenTV.  I’d like to see how many of the channels it ended up on.

The scan this time revealed lots of channels without checkmarks and looked different from previously so I think I messed up previously with the check/uncheck and that probably explains all the extra channels. When I saved the unchecked ones disappeared as expected. The final EPG view looks a lot more dense with fewer '(no listings)' entries. A quick test shows that the remaining channels are all clear and play video streams when selected. It looks like the previous channel 77 (Channel 4) that wouldn't resolve a video stream is no longer in the EPG or Channels pages.

Here's something I discovered that I had not noticed previously. It looks like Unicode characters are not being encoded correctly in the program names or descriptions.

The encoding in your database does have an extra byte before some utf-8 characters (C3 83) Interestingly some titles work ie Pokémon: XY Sub is going to need to look into the byte handling or Huffman decoding.

I have a hunch that that extra byte means it is too late to fix. I think that the encoding has to be handled further upstream. I don't think that the Huffman decoding has anything to do with it. I had something similar not so long ago where JSON web request responses were encoded as UTF-8 but then viewed as ISO-8859-1. Forcing the charset to UTF-8 might work. I can't quite remember how we solved it but if it is important I can dig up the old files to see.

Ah, OK. So the raw data is preserved just the method of display needs looking at. Great, that should be a simpler job to fix.

So what are some of the main channels that end up with '(no listings)'?

I made this list https://pastebin.com/W9WTgt3G and the indented channels are FTA but not in his Freesat list that are in Open TV. There are so many I am not sure you can say which is "main"
