Intel Arc A380

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade my HTPC graphics card running NextPVR in hopes for faster encoding times (ffmpeg and such).

Has anyone tried the Intel Arc A380 graphics card?  I'm reading that it is decent for video processing.

My other HW for reference:
  cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  mobo: ASUS PRIME A520M-A II
  Ubuntu 22.04

I verified compatibility with all and that drivers are available.  I understand that I will need to upgrade the PSU to 600W also.

If this is not as great then I might rebuild the whole thing from scratch.

Other suggestions welcome.

With h/w encoding you don't really get that much of an improvement on encoding from one Intel to another. The newer generations give AV1 but many users haven't moved to it. For the NextPVR web browser h264 is still required even if h265 or AV1 are better,.

For NextPVR I wouldn't bother about encoding unless you like the web client, just play direct and use direct play hardware clients no need for an HTPC in 2024.
