Hi!

I'm newbie who just bought MPV and ready to proceed with gbpvr.

I wonder if I can avoid "letterbox" issue on a fly using avisynch?
Does gbpvr understand avisynch files and able to send them to MPV ?

Maybe there is a plugin which uses avisynch and automatically analyze files to play?

yes, there is a thread regarding using Avisynth, with exemples of files, and the resolutions the MVP supports.
Use the search feature, you should find it...

I've read thru this threads - lot's of problems but they all were in a past?

I'm building P4 3gig system and MPV will be connected thru LAN

Can you tell in 2 words if I will be able to watch DivX without a problems?
I need to be able pause and fwd/rwd
Possible?

If not I would love to have some kind of utility that can run as a scheduled batch process and just encode all files to mpeg2 during night time.

I didn't build my server yet - but I bought MPV already. That's why asking.
I like MPV idea better - but if it won't do - I will return and proceed with PVR system instead of server.

What do you think?

TIA

ummm maybe

The MVP is much better at playing MPEG2 files than AVI files. To play AVI files it needs to 'on the fly' re-encode the video to MPEG format, which is less than ideal. This process will consume huge amounts of CPU, require at least a 2.4Ghz CPU, loose video quality, loose the ability resume video since transcoding needs to start from the beginning of the file, maximum of one MVP playing an AVI at a time, and will be prone to errors if you dont have the right combination of directshow filters on your machine.

If you need to use a MVP, keeping your video as MPEG2 is a much better idea.

The supplied AVI mechanism should work, but I'd only like to use this when I absolutely have to.

Yeh.. I hear you.

Wonder if something like
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=318#

will be better for me.
Does gbpvr support this thing?

My main issue is timesavings.
I have kid with bunch of cartoons and CD's laying around.
I wanted to have something that will allow to watch whatever I download.

Would be perfectly fine if there is utility that can work from command line or something to convert anything to mpeg2..

With the MVP you get the full GB-PVR user interface on the screen, so you schedule recordings and do normal GB-PVR stuff, which is a pretty nice benefit.

With the DSM-320 you just get a simple D-Link file browser interface, but it will let you play AVI files. That said, I'd research this further if you decide to buy one. Many people complain about the in-video navigation on these device (problems with FF/skip etc).

Yes. That is closed box.

As a developer I like MVP+gbpvr (especially plugins in .NET Big Grin )

I guess I will stick with MVP and have something figured out for batch conversion into mpeg2

Is there any problems with "in-video navigation" when play mpeg2 ?

Is there software that will convert any video file into mpeg2 without manually setting options, etc?

So I can pass file name and output file name and it will convert automatically?
