The Hauppauge dualHD usb WinTV works well on Elementary OS 5.1 for ATSC and Nextpvr 5.0.1.

Update to my previous information: HDPVR 1212 and HVR 1950 Analog working very well as extra devices.

I know this is a old thread, but what firmware did you install and how? I have the same card and I just followed the guide to install the drivers that was on the Hauppauge site, and didn't do anything about frimware, since it said it isn't needed for American tuners.

I tried NextPVR since TvHeadend didn't detect my card (& no one there helped me) but NextPVR isn't detecting it either.

For reference, I'm using Ubuntu server 24.04

The kernel will have driver but I suspect you will be missing firmware servers will install less than desktop.. Did you run

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-hauppauge

and check dmesg for missing firmware.

I tried 'sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-hauppauge' but I remember when i did, it would say something about installing firmware before every prompt even after restart so i just thought it was broken or something. I can try it again and report back.

I've tried dmesg before, but I just get this error message;
"dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted"

Also, thank you so much for replying and helping, it's such a relief to get some help on something so niche. I really appreciate it.

sudo dmesg | less

Give NextPVR a chance too it is much simpler to work with then TVHeadend and most users don't need all that the TVHeadend can do.

The question becomes why do you need Ubuntu server? You might find LibreELEC does everything you want.

Is there anything specific I should be looking for in dmesg? Should I do the install firmware command first? sorry if i seem redundant, i'm just still pretty new to linux still so bear w me

I'm using ubuntu server because I'm running a jellyfin server (among others) on CasaOS, and thats the distro that they talk about in the Hauppage guide. Also, at this point, i dont wanna have to reinstall and set everything back up again haha.

Also, if I get it working, I do plan to keep using NextPVR. If for anything else than I can actually get help for it. I'm so glad theres a plugin for it on jellyfin (how good it is, i'll have to find out)

Jellyfin works on LE too with the advantage LE is generally a better client. DVB will often just work. No idea about CasaOS.

Look for errors loading firmware of .fw files.

Ok, I think I did find some errors relating to the firmware for the card, Heres the section I got

"[    2.963576] saa7164_downloadfirmware() no first image
[    2.963865] saa7164_downloadfirmware() Waiting for firmware upload (NXP7164-2010-03-10.1.fw)
[    2.964492] saa7164 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for NXP7164-2010-03-10.1.fw failed with error -2
[    2.964497] saa7164_downloadfirmware() Upload failed. (file not found?)
[    2.964773] Failed to boot firmware, no features registered
[    2.966001] saa7164 driver loaded"

I'm guessing I really do need to run the command. Just to be sure, after I run the command, do I just wait? How do i know it's finished?

EDIT: I should say too, there are links to firmware files on the HVR-2250 LinuxTV page, but all those links are dead, so if I need to manually download/install the firmware files, i'm not sure where I would get them

If you can't download that file you can often get the missing files form LibreELEC https://github.com/LibreELEC/dvb-firmwar...r/firmware Copy it to /lib/fireware and rinse and repeat until you see /dev/dvb/adapter0
