Enabling closed captioning and mute settings in the browser which was requested here is different then DVB subtitles and teletext, I don't see the web client setting any cookie being set so for CCs though so the answer is probably no. There are other issues with CC's in the web browser if you have h/w decoding enabled.

For recordings the embedded subtitles are already stored with the recording unless you are talking about some IPTV streams that might use webVTT which NextPVR doesn't support.

Many NextPVR clients are better at handling closed captioning, subtitles and teletext

Thanks for the reply.

It looks like I will have to stick with downloading the shows I want to see and include the subs (VTT or TTML) after conversion to srt  

It would be nice to have them in the recording but my Fetch Mighty does not capture them

I contacted someone I know in Australia and it turns out he knows the Fetch Mighty, in fact he has one.  I got a sample of an ABC recording from him and you do have teletext subtitles so no external srt files are needed in any NextPVR client I tried.

It even works in the browser when you use settings and not the CC button to turn them on.  Not sure why they are so small, that's a different issue. Other clients are nicer.

Also interestingly the Fetch Mighty guide calls them closed captioning but the button is labeled Text which is more accurate. He actually had to enter the 123 button and then the text button, not too convenient.

Fetch Mighty just stores the recording as a normal ts file. The web player still won't play srt files, but some clients will just exract it before running handbrake assuming you aren't cutting it.

ffmpeg -txt_format text -i input_file.ts out.srt

However you will miss the nice colouring of the text subtitles, maybe consider a bigger drive.

Hi Martin,

I finally got GOOD subtitles out of NextPVR and The Fetch Mighty.

I got all technical and made life hard for myself
The simple way  was ....
1. Copy Video File (.ts) to my work machine
2. Top and Tail the show (From ABC so no adds to worry about)
3. Open the video with Mkvtoolnix-gui where I found a SubRip/Srt with "en" as the Language
4. I then gave that entry a Track name eg. "English"
5. I started the Multiplexer and created an ".mkv" video file (with audio and subs)
6. I then used a home grown REXX program to remove the "junk". You can use notepad or Notepad++ to do the same job
7. I remove the first SubRip/Srt entry and add the new edited .srt file and re-mux into a new video file This new file is then run thru Handbrake to give me an H265 video file.

See attached for MediaInfo output and the new srt file
