Converting .TS files

Knowing your wife doesn't like wifi (and wondering how you can use RF remotes in a house likely filled with RF), what about powerline Ethernet or maybe MOCA from the cable connections.

That's an idea. I've kept this laptop completely offline so as not to have to deal with Windows patches, but I'll talk to her.

Just don't enable Internet MOCA and powerline aren't immune. I have a Vista PC running and I've blocked the Internet and remove IE.

Well, the whole project is now up in the air. Verizon's records show only two of the three pieces of equipment that we'd returned at the store and they want us to either return the third piece or pay for it. Since we already returned it, we can't return it. And we are not paying for something that we already gave back.

Wife is in a blind rage over the store's incompetence (or worse), and is making noises about cutting the cord and going to Internet only. Not that I blame her, this is outrageous. Guess we needed to take video as we handed each piece of equipment over to the clerk.

Meanwhile, I offline-installed NextPVR on that laptop and, sadly, NextPVR is running into the same issue I've encountered with every other video player I've tried on that machine. If I let a recording play from the start, it runs fine (AFAICT). But as soon as I try to FF or skip over the commercials, it takes a long time to resume playing at the new location in the video. This also happened with VLC, Kodi, and the Windows 10-style "Movies & TV" app. Repeatedly waiting for a recording to start back up rather defeats the purpose, which is to avoid unmitigated boredom while on the treadmill.

So far, the only player that doesn't do this is Windows Media Center (manually grafted onto Win10). But to get NPVR's .TS files playing in WMC, I have first to convert them to a format that WMC will recognize, which is a tedious step I'd like to eliminate. (And... we're back to the original subject of this thread.)

Do you mean fast forward or skip? Best way to skip is with thumbnails as shown here https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid608405 no speed issue.

When you were trying the playback with NextPVR running directly on the laptop, were you using the NextPVR.exe Windows client? And did you install the recommended 32-bit (must be 32-bit even on a 64-bit Windows) LAV decoder pack and set NextPVR.exe to use all the LAV decoders and renderers?

FYI, there have been changes in the release that is coming out in the next few days, which gives much quicker skips in NextPVR.exe

As Martin said, skipping by using the thumbnails is the best way.

Yep, I was using the NextPVR.exe client. When I started to play a video, I soon realized that there was further software that needed to be installed offline, the LAV decoder: I could play video but there was no audio, and changing the audio decoder via Settings didn't persist, it always reverted back to "Disabled." But I left that part for later, as my first objective was to see how well I could play videos in NextPVR on that machine.

How would thumbnails work when using a remote while walking fast on a treadmill? For this use case, I'm wondering if a Media Center remote might be the best bet.
