NPVR Tray stuck showing EPG Updating

My system alerted me to the fact it wasn't sleeping as per its schedule and the culprit was the NPVR Tray stuck showing EPG was updating.

Checking the logs it looks like it was caused after this error:-

The actual programme title was 

Inside The Langham Britainâs First Grand Hotel

When I copy the directory and file names they display as :-

I assume there's a problem NPVR handling the characters in the title.

It isn't the tray app, the EPG update is likely failing with recent change to try and populate the original air date from the catalog. Always better to post logs to help us figure out how to prevent this since that looks like a trapped error.

The source EPG is part of the of problem, it should be a quote but the UK guide often has these https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/quotes.html This is an ongoing issue with NextPVR but I think I have improved it for the next version.

I didn't think the NPVRtray was the cause other than the NPVR service not clearing it of the "Updating EPG" status when the error occurred. (Hence my failed system sleep).

If this gives any further help, I've attached the relevant unedited log.

I almost always ask for all the zippled logs since the problem on the EPG update is with the tuner in the DeviceHost. Here is the wayward thread and if I had to guess it was the DVB-T tuner that failed

which carries on till I rebooted the system. Looks like the stream from the tuner wasn't stopped from about the time of the error in the record.log.

So I think the "TS continuity counter indicates missing packets" is likely due to the fact the tuner was already streaming when a recording started on that tuner.
The recording was successful on the tuner.

I've not seen this problem happen before so I think it's probably rare given the UK broadcasters don't normally use non UK style characters in program titles ( & EPG.)

I really would have preferred the zipped logs, that snippet doesn't help. If that was from the DVB-T log not the DVB-S log it would have been much earlier than the error.

It isn't extremely rare in a large OTA set in fact the style guides so the \u2019 is preferred to the apostrophe. Usually it is in the description, but it can be in a title and the new original air date change will highlight them more since it touches all of them.

That last error log snippet was from the DVB-T tuner used for the EPG update.
Unfortunately I didn't get to the system till most of the relevant log data had been overwritten (especially with the repeating tuner processed message)

I've often wished we could change the default max log size or number of logs kept before rollover.

OK.  In the future the very best thing to do is send the zipped logs with the initial post.  It is curious that the DVB-T tuner didn't stop before the DVB-S tuner started, so something to watch for.

For the catalog error the next version should fix that special case.  It takes good eyes to differentiate the  different apostrophe in  Britain’s First vs Langham's spa  at least it won't be that mess anymore.
