While the your plugin was running and creating a graph, I connected to it and tried to add the encoder into it. When I tried the connect the out pin of the capture device you created to the in pin on the encoder, it complained about not agreeing on a connection.

Strange part is, if I open the lastgraph file, I can add the encoder to it.

When you create the 'Video Capture Device', are you coping the real capture device or just making a generic device?

You can change these settings in the config window, select a different setting for LiveTV (or which ever mode you're using) and it'll use the selected mode instead of the defaults.

If you go to the add filter window, you can expand the tree, and it should show all the pins, and their details (including direction, category and preferred media types).

yuck.

If you save the live graph as xml and compare it with the lastgraph saved as xml, are the GUID's all the same?

Nope I'm adding this filter by GUID. The _textual_ name is purely descriptive, and the GUID's should match your device always. You can confirm this by checking the values in the xml.

Sorry to be dim. I'm at work at the moment and hence have not got GBPVR in front of me. Which config window are you referring to? The one in the SWrecorder plugin setup screen or elsewhere in GBPVR?

Ditto on the not being in front of gb-pvr, but this is basically it: The settings in the software record capture device configuration screen. These a quality setting selection at the bottom, with a 'edit' button next to it. That opens a new window where you can choose your settings, etc.

Hi Normanr

Have done as suggested. Have selected LiveTV output quality to 720x480 RGB24. This was the higest res image available in the dialog. I'm limited to this - the dialog says 480 lines max. This is an issue as Im feeding the capture device with a PAL image (UK) so would expect 576 active video lines (dScaler manages this). Have then opened graph in graphedit and jpg shows properties of line linking capture device to renderer. Note it is unchanged at 320x240 YUV2 (also at 60Hz which is not right). So issues for me are :

Why the 480line limit, why is 60Hz involved and why does LiveTV settings not change characteristics of signal to renderer.

Pls see attached jpg - now Ive got the hang of grabbing screen

Norman

Have just reread previous post. Pls do not infer criticism of your fine app from the above. Non was intended. Info was provided in the spirit of constructive feedback. Sometimes missives can appear to have a tone which is unintended when hastily penned

Have just grbbed dScaler OSD screen to show waht dScaler makes of the signal being fed to it from the sweetspot card. I tried to connect to the graph using graphedit but graphedit seemed to think no graph was present. don't know why. But dScaler seems to think 576lines are present (2 x 288 presumably because Im feeding in an interlaced signal from my skybox.)

Kevl: I took a shortcut with the quality settings - I only change the settings on Pin 0, not the pin in use. Try using the 'Capture' pin for preview mode, and see if that helps.

Hi

Have just tried swapping capture and preview pins in the SWrecorder settings dialog and this gives me 720x480 RGB24 properties on the renderer input pin. Also the picture is now much clearer with the OSD looking much better. I'm still limited to 480 lines and the framerate is set to 30Hz in the properties dialog - though presumably I can change that in graphedit. Not sure that the setting will then "stick" but will experiment non the less. Maybe this 30Hz/60Hz thing is a default which is hard coded (due to windows being made by a US company where NTSC (60Hz) is standard. The SWrecorder dialog has a setting for video standard and mine is set to PAL_I - which should be OK for UK.

Is the video standard in your country's system PAL or NTSC?

It is good that I'm making progress. Will be around this eve if you would like me to change anymore settings etc.

Have experimented further. Setting RGB24 as colour format results in a colourspace converter being placed in the graphedit graph. Setting format to YUY2 gives 16bit colour with no added colourspace converter and the best results (I think). Tried changing framerate to 25Hz (rather than 30Hz) in capture device properties in graphedit but this just crashes graphedit. Not sure how to correct framerate. Also found that display brightness etc can be adjusted in graphedit and this also improves picture. Also settings seem to stick (havent rebooted yet though). You might want to consider a button in your app to set display brightness, saturation etc.
