Read up on your HDPVR for the passive HDMI output on the back of the HDPVR. That won't help with the detection issue unless the VMS4100 or the IPC4100 you are using is detecting 4K on your TV.

For video output I assuming the STB you have has a setting menu where you chose what the HDMI output is. I can't offer more than that.

NextPVR and the Hauppauge capture won't work unless you fix this.

Just tried connecting the HDMI cable that was coming out of the splitter straight to the TV, to the HDPVR bypass port instead. The result is that I'm getting video for a couple of seconds, then a black screen with no signal for several seconds, alternating. Sometimes there's a blue screen (not a BSOD) or a color pattern. ---> However, as I continued to compose this reply, the video seemed to stabilize.

Hauppauge Capture is still not getting anything; will try rebooting the laptop next chance I get.

Also, I looked through the STB settings and the menus don't have anything about selecting an HDMI output. This seems to make sense because the STB only has one HDMI port.

Odd usually they have a setting for 4K, 1920p 1920i 720p, auto since not all work on the EDID.

I learned how to get into the STB's diagnostics menu, where the settings for the video resolution can be adjusted. It helped that I still have the old Verizon remote that features many more buttons than the new remotes.

However, actually getting into that menu will have to wait a bit longer, as after I rebooted the laptop to mollify Capture (which despite numerous reboots kept complaining that the audio source had changed and I had to reboot), now not only is Capture still getting no signal, but with the HDMI cable that goes to the TV having been plugged into the HDPVR's HDMI Out instead of into the splitter, now there is no video showing at all, just a black screen on the TV

This situation is worse than before the reboot: There is no video coming out of either the "HDPVR In"-laptop-TV branch or the "HDPVR Out"-TV branch, and thus no way to view the STB's diagnostic menu. Next thing I'm trying is to put the HDMI cable connections back to where they were before, with one going from the splitter straight to the TV. At least I'll be getting a signal out of something.

I have a spare HDPVR and may try installing it in place of the current one, see if that makes a difference. But this will be a long, tedious process and will have to wait. Recording the MLB post-season will have to wait  Angry until we reach a round where Fox Broadcast is showing the games and I have a couple of alternative non-STB ways to catch that channel.

It is not clear but did you try connecting the output from the VMS41000 to the TV and bypass the HDPVR altogether?

I haven't tried that option. I could try it for troubleshooting purposes in case the splitter has gone bad.

The closest I've come to that (bypassing the HDPVR) is connecting the output from the VMS4100 to the splitter, and then one line out of the splitter to the TV. That's been part of my setup all along until this week.

All right, I connected the IPC4100 (the VMS4100 is in a different room) directly to the TV. Nothing showed on the TV screen from the STB. Switching inputs on the TV to HDMI 3 where the line straight from the STB is plugged in, the TV recognized that it's the IPC4100 but then would automatically switch to HDMI 2 where my Windows Media Center PC goes in.

I returned the connection scheme to the original state (STB to splitter to TV) and this went away. Was able to view live channels again, so at least we have that.

However, none of these moves have enabled Hauppauge Capture to start getting a signal onto the laptop again. And Hauppauge documentation is pretty sparse -- can't find anything there or elsewhere on the Web regarding Capture's repeating claim that "the audio source has changed" requiring a restart.

Further update: I found the Advanced settings for the Hauppauge Capture software. There is an option for Audio Decoders. These are currently set as follows:

AAC Decoder: ArcSoft Audio Decoder HD
MPEG1 Decoder: Hauppauge MPEG Layer-1/2
AC3 Decoder: Hauppauge AC3 Decoder

IIRC, NextPVR works best when using the LAV Audio Decoder; maybe it'll be the same with Capture? LAV is offered as an otption for t=each of the three decoders above. Should I set them to LAV?

You can try but those would be a playback options not recording.

Thanks, I'll leave them alone then.

Any thoughts on post #17?
