For video output I assuming the STB you have has a setting menu where you chose what the HDMI output is. I can't offer more than that.

NextPVR and the Hauppauge capture won't work unless you fix this.

I managed to get into the IPC4100's well-hidden technician menu where I can select 1080i, 1080p24, 720, etc. Is that what you mean by "HDMI output," or something else?

FWIW, it was set to 1080p60 and obviously that wasn't working, so I changed it in turn to 1080p30, 1080p24, and 1080i, but none of these settings have gotten Hauppauge Capture to get a signal.

Recommendations?

I can report some progress.

Based on this discussion, I enabled microphone in Windows settings and relaunched Capture. This time I got Capture to actually show the tuned channel, though the video was very choppy and soundless and Capture is STILL complaining that the audio input has changed and I need to "restart the device" (not sure if that means Capture or the laptop itself). WinTV also showed the tuned channel, and it even followed along when I changed the channel using the STB remote. However, there was no audio.

NextPVR also displayed the tuned channel, but with choppy garbled audio. After a couple of minutes, the audio conked out completely though the video portion is perfect.

Next steps? (Logs?)

I incorrectly assumed you tried re-installing the Hauppauge software first since that is what I would have done and that is microphone info is clearly marked out https://hauppauge.com/pages/support/supp...pture.html I would continue on and reinstall.

At some point during this process, I had installed the latest version of Hauppauge Capture in case that helped, but evidently it didn't.

Just reinstalled it again and got the same (negative) result. Wondering if I should or even can go back to the previous version of Capture.

Regarding the microphone info from post #23, a search for the word "microphone" on the linked page yields no results, but I did find some instructions for settings to deal with "squeaky audio" on the FAQ, and there's also the "I'm not getting audio on my TV monitor, but I have audio in my recordings" FAQ. Is either of these what you had in mind?

You are right it wasn't microphone it was camera in the privacy settings (but maybe those include microphones?)

For audio maybe play around with ac3 and aac, not sure what is coming out from your box.

Thanks for the clarification. Both camera and microphone are allowed in the Windows privacy settings.

For audio, the IPC4100 seems to let me choose between Auto, Pass Through, and L-PCM. Default is Auto, not sure whether it's L-PCM or Pass Through that it uses for the auto setting. Should I leave that setting alone, and if so, then what else is there to try?

I assume with pass through you want ac-3 in the audio setting and with L-PCM you want aac.

Hauppauge Capture appears to offer a way to select AAC, but I don't see a way to select AC-3. Am I looking in the right place?

https://hauppauge.com/pages/support/supp...tml#guides but I don't use Windows. Looking a the user guide you should turn the audio mixer off, that is for adding commentary and it could be your actual audio problem (that is why you needed to enable the microphone too)

It should auto detect the ac3 (for 5:1) and aac source you need to determine what you want. AAC will allow playback in NextPVR web without transcoding.

Well, whaddya know, that seems to have done the trick -- mostly. After turning off the microphone, audio is often choppy/stuttering, but at least there's something. It sounds as if there were a loose connection somewhere along the line (even with the occasional pop/crack); I'm sure everything is firmly connected but will double-check.

Unclear how the whole problem could have happened in the first place. The only new thing I did that was in close temporal association with the start of the problem, was that I discovered that I could use Capture to offload programs that had been recorded on the DVR onto the NPVR laptop. Maybe using Capture for that purpose somehow automatically changed the microphone setting?
