I've missed several season recordings this week, but with no error that I can find. While a couple did work, I missed Survivor, Lost and Invasion, all new episodes. The programs still show in my reoccuring recordings list, and the EPG updates have succeeded.

Since the recording service log doesn't show the date but instead just the time, I'm having a hard telling exactly what entries might go with the shows I missed, but as best I can tell, the system didn't even try to record Lost, Invasion and Survivor. For your reference, Lost and Invasion are on channel 4 at 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, while Survivor is on channel 5 at 8:00 pm. In the log there's are two recordings early in the log on channel 26 where done on Tuesday. The last is CSI being recorded at 9:00pm on channel 5 Thursday which was a one-time recording I selected in the guide after Survivor was over.

Any suggestions? Is there anything I can do to make sure I don't miss other reoccurring recordings short of must making sure they appear as Pending the day they are due?

Thanks,

There isnt anything obvious in that section of log.

Next time it happens zip and attach a complete set of logs, and give me details about what you tried to record, at what time, and what happened (no file, zero byte file etc). Also include a brief overview of your setup (ie, what capture devices you have in your machine).

The best thing to do is to make sure your set up is working reliably, and you've resolved any issues you find. There is usually a good reason why a recording failed, and if it happened once it can happen again. Best to try to stop it happening.

Ok, thanks sub. At what point do reoccurring recordings get added to the Pending list? What's the critical point, and is there something I can look for there? For instance, my reoccurring Tuesday recordings are already showing in the Pending list, but Wednesday's are not. When should I expect them?

By the way, one small enhancement request would be to have the date included in the recording log as well as the time. It'd make it a bit easier to see what was going on, and when.

Thanks,
Tim

I think they get added as soon as an EPG update gets done. Can you see the shows in the guide? How many days of EPG do you have?

I see data in the EPG through Wednesday at 8 pm. My first Wednesday recordings are at 9pm, so I presume after tonight's EPG update I should expect to see my Wednesday shows appear in the Pending list.

That sounds like it. You can also change the amount of days of EPG you get. I get 14, so I can plan way ahead of time. The downside is I almost go burnt on shows getting reshceduled. Once they are in the EPG, if the network reschedules, you won't know, unless you check another source.

You could also do a manual update now and check if they show up, but it sounds like everything is working.

The start of the recording is the critical point. This is where I would be looking in the logs for any errors.

Assuming the shows made it to the pending list, which is what I suspect didn't happen or I'd have seen something in last week's log.

I just increased the number of days of EPG data that gets downloaded and ran a manual EPG update, and the reoccurring recordings I missed last Wed and Thurs now show as Pending for this week. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on them and make sure they don't get deleted. I'm curious if my problem is really related to trouble with the "Don't Record Duplicates" setting. I'm not sure why it would have been a problem since all 3 shows were new episodes last week, but maybe the EPG data was messed up or perhaps it's something else.

Thanks again.

Yes, if you've enabled the 'Dont record duplicates' setting, then this is the possible cause. The logic for this is only as good as the show identifiers supplied by zap2it, and they are known to reuse codes for some shows.

Your best bet is probably to disable the 'dont record duplicates' setting.
