0kb recordings

I have a similiar symptom, but a different scenario.

I'm using the latest GBPRV software, MediaMVP, Hauppauge PVR 350.

When the server is up and running, manual and scheduled recordings start, run, and complete fine.

When the server comes out of hibernation to run a scheduled recording, it looks like it begins the recording, but then it immediately stops. The file shows a size of 0kb.

Has anyone experienced this?

A few versions ago (of the 350 driver, I mean) there was an issue with the tv-out on the 350 after hibernation. That doesn't seem to be your problem, however, the solution to restart the 350 after hibernation might work for you. Check the thread below.

I had a 0 byte problem early this week.

Though at first it may have been a permission/ read-only type issue as windows seemsed to be selecting read-only to on. Not so.

In desparation and after about two hours of reinstalling I worked and it turns out the MUX had been deregistered - Just ran the autoDVRconvert "register filters.bat". And that fixed all.

If I had though to have a good lood at my log files I see it appears as a "MUX not found" or somthing error.


P.S. Should add that the MUX checker didn't seem to detect that the MUXs were unregistered?

I've just noted this thread. I've been having say ~10% of my recording fail with only a 6kb produced. GBPVR interface and the logs suggest everything is OK. Refer to the thread I've been using for this:

Any thoughts/ideas welcome? Could this be the same issue?

My BDA Multiplexer (from config MISC screen) is "Microsoft DVR-MS", however I do have SS, Cyberlink and Intervideo options there. The current option selected was just the one that appeared after starting to use gbpvr. I use the intervideo video decoder for video playback. Interestingly however when I run the mux checker the only result I get is:

I don't know if this helpful...but my 0kb recording prob seems to be fixed:

I haven't been back to the forums in a while, but I struggled with the 0kb prob for ages, and was following this thread in its early stages. Since I was only getting one 0kb recording in every four or five, I left it (having tried various different multiplexers and other fiddling which didn't make any difference for me).

However, the problem <seems> to have completely resolved itself. This, I'm 95% certain, was how:

Since I wasn't getting a decent signal from Channel Five for just watching TV, let alone recording (I'm uk based, and five is on a different multiplex from everything else), I bought myself a £9.99 aerial signal booster.

Anyway it's done absolute wonders! I haven't had a single 0kb recording on any channels at all since & I've probably recorded 30 or 40 programmes in the last couple of weeks.

I hadn't thought of signal strength being my problem at all as all of channels appear to be crystal clear with absolute no breaking up at all...(apart from Five)

For the record I'm using a Nova-T 9002 card with the cyberlink multiplex (have also used dvr-ms mux successfully as well, but it can't do TV to MVP, so I reverted to cyberlink. Tried SS mux, but this caused probs for me).

Anyway, hope this is useful....definitely worth trying a signal booster, if you are getting 0kb recordings.

How is everyone getting on with this problem? I seem to be having the same thing, and looking at some of the potential solutions in this thread I am more confused as to what may be causing it.

I am using the Nova-t 9002 and an MVP with the cyberlink mux version 5.0.0813 . Basically I get some recordings working great, but other times I get it where the recording service brings my computer to a crawl with the recording service using 99% of the proccessor. Someone has said the SS mux solved their problem, however this mux dosn't even work on my system, thats with the latest trial version of SS. All other mux's i've tried don't work either, apart from the MS one, but thats no good for MVP.

This problem is driving me nuts, just got another tuner as well so really need to get this fixed.

Anyway, does anyone know where to get any other versions of the cyberlink mux from? Also, to everyone who thinks they have solved their problem, can you update on that, has the problem reocurred since? It just seems that everyone has come up with a different solution to this, so are all correct? I'm thinking signal strength may be my issue. However, I am boosting the signal that comes in, although it seems to be a bit of a dodgy signal before boosting, so am I just boosting the bad signal and making it worse? I acutally have two boosters, one to get the signal upstairs, and then one that splits into 4 and boosts again.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the last little problem I have with GB-PVR, then everything will be great

Do you know if you definitely have the correct aerial? If you are in the uk & are on a band 'A' analogue transmitter you will definitely need a different aerial for dvb. Good quality coax will also help, the old brown or white analog coax should be replaced with better cable - see this for different cable types. Type D is the one commonly used in old analog setups

I'm running XP SP2 with dual novas & the old mpgmux v4 & it all works fine. I havent tried the latest mux's as I dont want to break a working setup

As you seem to have found a solution to 0 length files, could you please tell me where we can find a copy of the version of the Cyberlink mux we need.

I am currently running on a Twinhan DTV-T card, using BDA drivers, and have registered the cyberlink mux version 5.0.0813 (double checked with "DirectShow Filter Manager"), from AutoDVRconvert.

I have a dual tuner setup but like many others discussing this problem, my logs show no indication of there being a problem. Currently in logging level "DEBUG".

I have found all the problems people describe:

- zero length files (maybe 1 every 2-3 days) with no consistency based on Programme or Channel (i.e. sometimes work, sometimes not)

- 99% CPU usage by GBPVRRecordingService.exe (maybe 1-2 ever)

and if I spot it soon enough, I can resolve the problem by quickly restarting the GBPVRRecordingService - which usually means the recording will start successfully from that point forwards.
