Yes, you can use GB-PVR on the TV while the monitor is being used for other things. The main problem is usually the remote control, since the apps supplied with the remotes usually only work when GB-PVR is the foreground application...and if you're using internet explorer or other app on the monitor, then GB-PVR wont be the foreground app, meaning the remote wont work. This can be overcome using thirdparty software like Girder etc.

In Windows 2000 and in XP on some graphics cards you can enable "extended desktop" in the display properties/settings/advanced which allows you to do two different things on two different monitors.
I do not know how to tell GBPVR to start using the second monitor.

To start the app on the second monitor, you either need to drag it over to the second monitor, then fullscreen it, or start GB-PVR using the -pos:x,y,w,h command line parameter.

The next release has an option in the config app to make this easier.

Thats not a GB-PVR bug, but more likely something in the setup of your video card or its drivers.

I had that problem with my ATI-card showing live TV, but playing files always worked so I just configured GB-PVR to always go into timeshift mode.
