to add new mp3s just rerun the loader, if you deleted mp3s they shouldnt appear in my music, but will remain in the database, ill add a flag to cleanup the database of all missing files (ill probably make it so you need to specify a drive, incase the network is down)

eg mymusicdbloader.exe -cleanup C:\

Reven Hi, I have been quiet for a while and just enjoying MyMusic2 on the MVP as it was.

Always up for an adventure thought I would try 3.

Have got it working with the latest GBPVR build, OK.

If I remember correct you do not have an MVP so just thought I would check a couple of things.

I use the 34 button R/C which does not operate like 2 did.

Specifically:-

The Blue & Yellow buttons no longer function as Page up/down. When the centre(main) window has focus the Blue does nothing and the Yellow toggles between the Sort options.

The unmarked button no longer PLAYS ALL in the set (Directory).

I seem to have the db working OK but have not given it a real test just yet.

A further question - what does the preview mode do?

Cheers. Alan

Hi reven, I thought i'd give it a go and ran the MyMusicDBLoader.exe. This created a database file over 450mbytes. When I ran GBPVR it started loading and took ages. I ctrl-alt-del to get task manager and the memory usage was over 2gbytes, I only have 1gbyte physical memory in the machine so it was going really slow.
It continued loading, I watched it get to about 2.3gbytes and then rebooted the machine and uninstalled the plugin (via "config").

My question "is this normal"? I do have a lot of music, about 28gbytes worth, how does your plugin/database cope with large music collections?

I'm on 47gb & counting with a 1.7mb db. I am not so much worried about the db size more the fact that all my compilations/soundtracks have an artist entry for each track, which makes (MVP) browsing unrealistic.

I know Reven hates iTunes, but I find it fine and with its Compilation Option it works great with MyMusic2. This means in the Directory Structure, Compilations appear as ONE artist and then on the iPod it is switchable to hide/show these Compliation artists. As I say with MyMusic 2 it's ideal. It would be great to get around this with v3.

Reven, with regard to version 2, will you not develop it further?

Cheers

ok the 34 button remote issue - just change the mymusic.xml file in the keymappings directory, you can reassign every key.

f**k me thats a lot of music. i dont see any reason why the plugin itself would have any memory issues. the dbloader might however as it retains every thing in memory until it completes. can you try running the dbloader again restart the machine and then enter the plugin and see what the memory usage is like. i must admit ive only tested this on about 1.5gbs of music files.

i had a poll ages ago asking if people wanted to use a filelist or database structure, like 85% wanted a database. so i switched. no there wont be any further development of my music 2, well there is since its now my music 3.
there is a sort by "Albums" mode which will work fine for compilations, as it just ignores the artist tag.

Quote:A further question - what does the preview mode do?
that view just displays the "album information" (stuff from the music tags and things looked up via amazon.com, eg the label, album review etc).

the good thing about using a database is that its music quicker to load a album now its just one database query instead of [n number of tracks].

Excuse my ignorance but I can see how you would assign keyboard keys but how do you map the remote?

reven Wrote:f**k me thats a lot of music...
I have around 500 albums with a lot of compilations - which means everytrack shows as an album. Albums mode does not really help, tough I know!

Thats a shame, I thought the simplicity of the directory structure was its best feature. With over 300 albums loaded so far I dont notice any difference in performance.

-----

Two good things I like about the new version, the current song is highlighted and the jpg displays without a second prompt/screen refresh.

Under2 I had an artist folder jpg as well as one for each album. In 3 it seems to default the artist icon to the first album icon.

Cheers
