So many options... so little time...

Does anybody know if there is a post that gives information on all of the options available in the GB-PVR config program? I'm a newbie to PVR and most of the terms are foreign to me. I've been able to get it running for live TV, pausing, etc. but I gotta believe that I have missed some things.

I know this is like asking someone to tell you how the space shuttle works but you guys seem to be able to answer all the questions I've seen!

Thanks for the link to the wiki. I've been slowly going through it (many things on the honey-do list keep me from spending much time)...

Where do I start? I guess I do not know enough to really ask intelligent questions... I've always been one of those guys that needs to know what every option does and then I can decide if it applies to me and my situation.

My experience has been that the video is a bit slow and the audio goes away sometimes (though I think I solved that using tips from this forum). I just figured with all the different types of hardware out there, that some settings might work better for my machine. However, I'm also one that doesn't like to just start changing settings unless I know what they do.

You might start by posting your card type, and driver version. If you have an MPV, video card type/model, TV source (cable, antenna, satellite), etc.
This way, specific users with similar setups, can recommend things that work.
Muxers, video decoders, card drivers, etc.

• I have a Dell Dimension 8250 (P4 - 2.8 Ghz) w/ 256mb
  
• PVR150 - Last night I updated with the latest drivers from Hauppauge (2.2.23257).
  
• No MVP though that's next on my list...
  
• NVidia video card (again I'm at work & can't remember the model). It came with the system. It does have TV-out but I'm not using it right now.
  
• TV source = Cable (Comcast)
  
• Running XPSP2
  
• OS & GBPVR on Drive C (120 GB Seagate)
  
• Videos being recorded on Drive F (100 GB Seagate) This drive is dedicated to the PVR function

When you say 'the video is a bit slow', what do you mean exactly?

For some NTSC (rev C199) PVR150's, there is a known driver problem that can cause audio to often be missing on several channels. This is corrected with the latest Hauppauge drivers from http://www.shspvr.com/smf.

By slow, I mean that sometimes it stops and stutters. It is usually when pausing or unpausing or changing channels. It's acting like I don't have enough horsepower but I don't think that's the case based on other posts I've seen here. That's why I was suspecting it was some setting that I had wrong.

I'm planning to try the tweaks for the Hauppauge card that I've seen here but just haven't had time.

After reading about all of the great success people have had with GBPVR, I'll bet it's my system and/or settings. I appreciate any input you can give.

Are you in live preview mode or timeshift mode? Things can be pretty sluggish in timeshift mode, often causing a bit of a stutter when changing channels. As much as I'd like everything to be smooth, its not as easy as it sounds.

Come to think of it, I believe I'm in timeshift mode. That's the only way to pause, right?

Oh, and thanks for the heads-up on the driver problem. I'll check my card. Since I updated the drivers last night, shouldn't that give me the latest or do I need to go to shspvr.com?

Yes, thats the only way to pause. Personally, I'm a channel surfer, so I've focused more efforts on live preview mode. The quicker the channel changes the better in my book.

It depends where you updated them from. The offical ones posted on the Hauppauge website tend to be a few release behind those posted on shspvr.com, but I'm fairly sure they did post the audio fix version on Hauppauge.com
