If I click on Live TV when it is recording I get an error message. Is it supposed to show me the show that it is recording, or is the error message what you're "supposed" to get? (I haven't got Live TV to work yet...but this error I only get when trying to watch live tv while it is recording)

would probably help if you said what the error was.

Well, my question was quite general, is it possible to watch live the show that is recording? That question has nothing to do with any particular error.

Anyways, the error I get when clicking on Live TV while recording is: "No Capture-Source was available to enable you to watch the requested channel"

I'd expect an error like that if clicking on "Live TV" meant, e.g. "watch channel 2" when it is recording channel 3.

But what I'd expect clicking on "Live TV" to always mean is "if a channel is being recorded, watch that channel; if not, watch the last channel watched or recorded".

"No Capture-Source was available to enable you to watch the requested channel"

That isn't an error as such, it's just telling you why you can't watch live tv right now.. It's not that easy to show what's being recorded so that's why it doesn't just show the channel it's recording.

You can watch the file that's being recorded now from the Recordings -> Pending menu, but probably only uptil the point that has been recorded when you press Play.

You need more than 1 tuner to watch while recording.

Actually, with one tuner you can watch what you're recording as you're recording it in Media Center Edition. But probably it's really just showing you the most recent part of the file.

Yep, that's exactly what it's doing, it show you the buffered file. If you want to watch the show you're currently recording then go into the "Recordings" screen and choose "Pending". From there you can choose the show which is currently being recorded and click "Watch".

To watch LiveTV on another channel you need one more tuner card.

it still needed to be more user friendly

I think dazz said it nicely:

But what I'd expect clicking on "Live TV" to always mean is "if a channel is being recorded, watch that channel; if not, watch the last channel watched or recorded".

Now we lack both of those (simple) features.
1) You don't get to see the channel recording when you click live tv (I haven't even tried to go to recordings, select "pending" and click "watch" - but trust me all this fails wife-test) - it should show what is recording AND pop up something (maybe a plain classic red dot somewhere) to SHOW you it is recording what you see.

2) GBPVR does not get you back to the last channel you watched when you exited livetv (or even the program). Every TV on Planet Earth does this today. Instead it takes you to the first channel.

Hey NLS,

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]But what I'd expect clicking on "Live TV" to always mean is "if a channel is being recorded, watch that channel; if not, watch the last channel watched or recorded".

This makes sense. I believe Sub is reworking some of the internal implementations of LiveTV, etc. so this may well be possible in a future release.

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]Now we lack both of those (simple) features.

Although these are "simple" features from a functionality point of view, my understanding that implemenation of these features is not simple.

I think at this stage we have become side tracked from the original post, as the two features requested are wishlist items.

The original question

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]If I click on Live TV when it is recording I get an error message. Is it supposed to show me the show that it is recording, or is the error message what you're "supposed" to get? (I haven't got Live TV to work yet...but this error I only get when trying to watch live tv while it is recording)

Currently the implemenation is, if you are recording a program, trying to watch livetv will results in the message on screen indicating that no capture device is available.

Again, this is a wish list item of being able to watch livetv and record the channel at the same time, or the opposite way round of watching what is currently being recorded. This is being worked on. And the feedback is appreciated [Image: smile.gif]

Cheers,
Colin.

well the least that should happen (and this is not a wishlist item) is that the error is captured and something more meaningful is presented to the (dummy stupid plain-NLS) user

this is a PVR not Visual Studio.Net
