Okay I have been playing around with this software for a couple of days and let me start out by saying it's money. Great TV playback, great interface options and basically everything is working great save for one thing - file playback. No matter what options I play with in FFDSHOW or in the config for GBPVR anytime I load a Divx, Xvid or other movie or TV grab it adjusts the ratio to fit full screen. I have told it in FFShow not to adjust, adjust to 4:3, if greater then 640...no matter what I tell it, it comes out wrong.

Here is the kicker..

If I play the same video in either Beyond Media or just plain WMP it plays in the correct ratio, looks great and has great color. On top of the ratio issue the color is really washed and the picture is not sharp when I play it through GBPVR. I realize it has been said before GBPVR simply hands off the actual file to Directshow..and when I change the Decoder I can see differences but I just find it strange that even Beyond Media plays it perfectly and in GBPVR I have issue. I would much rather use GBPVR as it is setup much better and I like the TV options better, so any pointers would be much appreciated.

you can adjust the screen aspect ratio in GBPVR using F7 (if you are using VMR9). see this post:

did you activate the osd in ffdshow, just to see, if it kicks in when playing a file? you should check config.xml for the ffdshow setting (just search for "ffdshow").

do you use vmr or overlay? alter these, maybe you get better quality.

FWIW, this is about the only bit that I am also having problems with and rather than start a new thread, perhaps I may piggyback on this one?

In mine, I do have OSB in ffdshow and when playing back on the PC display, I can see that ffdshow is working, but via the MVP it does nothing.

Is this normal or should the ffdshow aspect ratio change also come through on the MVP display?

David.

ffdshow is not used when you are playing MPG files via the MVP. All the decoding is done in hardware.

I turned on OSD with FFDshow and it shows the same ratio..I am using VMR9 with the Mainconcept decoder..I have tried the Intervideo and the Cyberlink and both yield the same effect. I tried using VMR9 and Overlay, and saw the same things..only difference is the TV quality suffered and/or failed to even worked. The best pic quality in TV for me is using the Mainconcepts and VMR9, looks sharp and clean.

Okay so I tried using the F7 and man...that is the answer right there, thanks for that tip.

Also I turned on deinterlacing and the picture is pretty clean as well, the black isn't as washed out and the picture is a bit more sharp. Now if I could figure out why my rip of American Psycho won't play I would be in heaven, but that is an encoding issue that I can fix, thanks for all the replies and help.

I figured that might be the case. So just to check, should the MVP always get the aspect ratio right? I think it is but the picture is also just a little too big and the TV is clipping it but from reading the other posts, it seems that there's nothing that can be done about that.

Great software anyway.
