I've rebuilt (i.e. OS reload) my GeeBo several times since I embarked on this HTPC adventure roughly one year ago. I've had this problem occur twice. The first time I found it to be caused by the DirectX 9.0c quartz.dll issue. The second time I found the Weather Plug-in to be to blame. Needless to say, my current setup has the DirectX 9.0b quartz.dll file installed and I no longer use the Weather plug in.

I've got the quartz file and I don't have any extra plugins or anything. The recording service definitly spikes at the stutter point. It's usually at a couple % then spikes to like 25% or so. It looks like it might cause GBPVR.exe to lower from around 45% or so to 35...not sure if that matters. If I'm behind live TV by a bit I don't seem to get it, only if it's as "live" as possible.

Anybody tried emptying the EPG ? My 30 second spike seems to be related to the size of the EPG guide. Empty EPG = no spike. EPG 5 days = slight spike. EPG 14 days = massive spike.

I agree with wtg; the problem we are seeing is specifically happening during timeshift mode and is happening on systems that are not being bogged down by things like fragmented drives, firewalls, or memory problems. If this were the case then I would expect it to happen when I am recording a program and watching it while being recorded; however the playback is completely smooth!! I can even be recording another show with my other card and it is still smooth as silk.

A question for sub. What is happening differently in timeshift mode that is NOT happening while recording a show and playing it back while still being recorded? I think that whatever it is doing differently is related to the hicup problem that some people are seeing.

I also get the hic-ups but I am not sure when it started - seems with the previous version of GB-PVR. It happens when GB-PVR records in the background. If I watch any recorded material through GB-PVR or separately through PowerDVD, it has the hic-ups on video with audio fine. I tried some of the things posted on this thread like delete anti-virus processes and other extras, and the hic-up intensity seem to get better but it does not go away.

I think we are all becoming suspicious about lots of things and end up spending a lot of time on tuning our systems - It seems to point to the recording process as fiteclub said earlier in this thread.

My system:

AMD 2500+
Panasonic Plasma directly on SVGA
Sapphire Theatrix 5500 capture
ATI 9550 video
3x200 Gb Seagate disks
1 Gb RAM

This one is different to what everyone else has been saying. Everyone else has been saying they only get this hiccup with live tv in timeshift mode, not with recordings as you indicate. I'd say your problem is something different.

Thanks Sub. I do not use timeshift, and will check what it does. Mine could very well be different, but it also has an anoying hic-up. I will monitor the CPU performance closely when watching existing recordings during new recordings. Any idea what else could be the problem? I can actually see the hic-ups dissapear when a recording stops in the background. Can it be the ATI Theatre card? Which logs can shed some light on the problem?

I'm experiencing the 30sec hiccup as well. The farther behind live TV I am, the less the hiccup is noticible. About 5 minutes behind, I don't notice the it at all.
