I am trying to change the aspect ratio in GBPVR, but F7 isn't working for me. I am in VMR9. I am trying to use a 4:3 ratio with a 720x480 monitor resolution on an SDTV. This seems to look the clearest, but everything is slightly over the edge of my monitor display. My other options for monitor resolution are 640x480 and 800x600. Any suggestions?

Surely 720:480 isn't 4:3? There are 7 ratios though so suprised one doesn't work for you.

Well my problem is that I can't change the aspect ratio from within GBPVR using the F7 key. Is there another way to do it? Or do I have to enable something to allow that?

My other problem is that the 720x480 resolution is larger than my display screen, which is a SDTV. Any suggestions?

But you can use 800x600? Most strange, my old toshiba 28" can go up to 1024x768. It would seem 800x600 if it works is your obvious choice , have you tried using F7 at that setting?

I am not sure if it is my video card, or my TV, but 640x480 looks normal except in the upper corners it angles in towards the center of the TV. In 800x600 the image is too narrow and doesn't fill the screen. In 720x480, the image looks the best but is too large to fit the screen. In each of these cases, I am talking about the image as seen on the desktop.

I tried using F7 in all three resolutions, but it did not work. I don't mind using the 640x480, but the 720x480 just looks so much cleaner and the fonts are a lot more distinguishable.

I appreciate your help and I hope I can figure this thing out.

Some video decoders force directshow to maintain the orginal aspect ration, for example the nvidia decoder (and probably others). In the case of the nvidia you need to go into the properties of the small system tray icon and set it to 'anamorphic', and then it behaves correctly.

Okay, this is probably the stupidest question ever, but here goes:

How do I map F7 to my Hauppauge 34-button remote? I would like to be able to hit a button on the remote to change the aspect ratios when watching widescreen videos instead of having them stretch. I can VPN into the PVR and do it, but that requires knowledge that my wife doesn't have.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can edit the [GB-PVR] section of c:\windows\irremote.ini, and set on of the keys to send {f7}

Do I have to have the Hauppauge IR.EXE running for that to work?

Yes. I forgot to mention you'd need to restart IR.exe after making the change.
