Hi, do anyone know of a remote controller which will power on the computer, or wake the computer out of standby or hibernation. I am tired of pressing the mouse and keyboard buttons to wake up my computer from hibernation. I was thinking about using a MCE remote to power on or wake up my pc by enabling wake on usb port in the system bios. The hauppauge remote never woke my pc, even when I enabled "wake on pci bus" in the system BIOS. I was thinking about buying a serial to usb adapter just in case the wake on usb function fails to function. Any suggestions?

Some Silverstone-cases (like the LC11M, http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc11m.htm) seem to be able to wake-up from remote. you might want to check them out.

Havn't tired it myself, but found it when looking for a VFD display for the PC some time ago.

Personally I'm looking for a remote control switch to hardwire to the pc power, a company called jaycar in NZ has one, just goto find the money!!

Think seriously about the MCE remote. They are very well designed, work like a charm (including power on/off) and are great value. The receiver also works with other programable remotes. I've used it with several including a couple of harmony's and a pronto (all v.good) but in each case I gravitated back the MCE unit because it works so well. My previous case was an LC11M which I partly purchased in order to have a 'built in' remote but it didn't really compare and I just found myself using the MCE remote instead. Since then I've modified my cases to include the MCE receiver internally. As much as it hurts to recommend an MS product, you won't go far wrong with this one.

Most usb remotes will if your system supports wake on usb. The keyspan one has a sensitivity in it's control panel for how quickly it will wake it up (so not every little press will if you want it to me more deliberate)

Incidentally, the MCE remote should work on most machines, there is a registry entry that can be made to keep power to the usb ports, although it appears the machine is out to it... thus still recieving commands from the remote whilst in standby...enabling you to resume from the remote...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\usb]
"USBBIOSHACKS"=dword:00000000
"USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000
