Backend & Frontend,or all in one?

Does GB-PVR only run all on one PC, or can it be split up with a light weight quiet 'frontend' PC next to the TV and a 'backend' PC with the large hard drives and the tuner cards?
I'd like to have the backend PC on a big UPS, but not in the lounge room, and have more than one frontend. (multiple Xboxes spring to mind)

I've searched through the forums and the wiki but cant find the answer.

MVP are good frontends. There's also a thread somewhere about having remote GBPVR machines, but I can't get my hands on it....

I would love to get my hands on this thread as well. I'd like to run my HDTV tuner on a separate instance of GBPVR so I can use the DViCO decoder software solely for HDTV and the Hauppauge decoder solely for the WinTV. That would be perfect until sub decides to add support for decoders on a per source basis (if ever).

Actually, I'm not really interested in a PC frontend. Why tie up a $1000 PC or even a $500 PC when a $200 XBox (with XBMC) will do the same thing.?

I'm aiming more for a big fat server with a TB of disk space, 3 DVB tuner cards on a big UPS hiding in my 'computer room' and using the XBox to watch the recordings on the TV. Live TV is not a priority, if I want to watch Live TV I'll use the set top box, or start a recording and watch it a few minutes behind..
And I'm quite happy to use the web interface to set/manage the recordings.

And it needs to be simple for the rest of the people in the house.

I read the thread on multiple frontends, however that shares the Access database across the network. I suspect I'm going to have a hard time convincing Python on the XBox to use the GB-PVR Access database across the network.

Are there any plans to provide remote access to the core parts of GB-PVR? using TCP or WebServices and the like?

Or, if you know of some other product that suits my needs, please let me
know.

Why dont you just use an Hauppauge MVP? They cost as little as $45 dollars, and you can have multiple around the house. They're silent, and give you the full GB-PVR interface, and access to all the plugins etc.

Some guy was looking at providing a webservices wrapper for scheduling recordings, but you'll still need to create you own user interface, which is a lot of work, and is likely to mean it wont happen.

I originally planned to write a native xbox interface, but I sold my xbox about six months ago after I lost interest in it.

sub i am in nz and i have a modded xbox. The cheapest MVP is $180. So i am intrested in developing an xbox frontend or helping develop one (does Reven have an xbox.) Do you know anyone intrested?

yeah i have an xbox, and running xbmc, just have no need to use it since i have a htpc setup next to the tv.

They are $289 new in Australia.. and none to be seen on EBay.

And I already have 2 modded Xboxes.
