I am trying to use XDVD to watch iso files in another room through my MVP. I have installed the plugin and vlc and have modified the settings.xml file. I have reviewed all the threads on this plugin and I can't get it to work.

When I open XDVD (either on the pc or mvp), I can see my iso files on my hard drive that I have previously ripped using dvdshrink. However, when I select one and hit the play button, nothing happens. VLC appears to start but immediately stops (through task manager, I can see it start but immediately stop). The green square never appears in gbpvr and the counter never changes from 0/150 and I end up with a 1kb c:\dvd.mpg file. I can play dvd's (video_ts) through the pc and mvp using XDVD.

I don't know what to try. Any ideas?

Yes, when I mount an iso using Daemon on the pc (gbpvr not involved at all), it plays just fine on the pc.

Within gbpvr, when I hit play in xdvd with an iso selected, I get the 2 command line confirmations from Daemon, but nothing happens within xdvd. The counter remains at 0/150 and no green square. The image is mounted to the drive I have set (ZSmile when I check within Daemon. That part appears to work, but I only get a 1kb dvd.mpg file.

Would the video codec affect this? I have mine set to default.

Also, I'm still running v0.94.13 of gbpvr if that matters.

I am having a problem with Xdvd as well. sometimes i get the problem mentioned above where the counter shows but never leaves 0/150. I am also having a few other problems.

When i play an ISO it goes to the menu of the dvd. Unfortunately the remote that came with the MVP does do anything on screen. Is there any way to make this work or make it go to a different title.

The second problem i am having is sometimes when I select an ISO. It doesnt do anything, then when I check my machine upstairs(since I use an MVP). My computer has a message that says there is no media in the drive and asks if i should cancel, try again or ?(I can't remember). The problem is Kill VLC does not work when this message is up and the only way for me to know that this message has shown up is if I get fed up with waiting and go check my computer.

A final problem i have is when I try to skip or fastforward the screen freezes and then i get the MVP screen of trying to connect to server.

I know this was a lot and if you need any more information please let me know.

Thanks,
floydy

Hi, I've been scanning this forum for awhile but still can't find what I'm looking for.
My problem is this: I've just installed the latest release of xdvd (v.03) but whenever I try to play a video_ts (DVD) file on gbpvr on my pc, the number only goes to 35/150 or 0/150 and nothing happens.
I'm a complete noob+ideot so I welcome any help please!!!

Hi, I use GBPVR for my dvd's to on my MVP. But i use it slightly different. I use the Excellent My Vidoe's plugin. This is a takes a little time to get the vidoe's into the correct format but it works a treat and you can use the Episode/IMDB functionality.

1. Launch VLC and With disk in the drive/directory choose Open Disk
2. Choose DVD.
3. Change the Title to the title number you wish to play.
4. Put a tick in Stream Output then hit settings
5. Put a tick next to file and enter a filename to save it too.
6. Change the Encapsulation method to MPEG PS
7. Put a Tick next to Video Codec in Transcoding Options and Choose MP2v and choose your bw (I usually choose 2mb but thats because i am tight and dont want to buy more disk space)
8. Put a tick next to Audio Codec and choose mp2a and choose the bw. I use 128Kbs but it doesnt really matter if you go higher if you have a kick ass home system choose 512k not sure how the mvp will handle that though.
9. Hit ok, Hit ok.

What this does is transcode the stream so that the pc doesnt have to do it on the fly. PC Cpu is a lot lot less utilised when playing streams.

you can also run this from a command line as so.

C:\DVDs>C:\Progra~1\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=2048,i
nterlace,acodec=mp2a,ab=128,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url
="<File Name to save too here>"}} dvdsimple://<DVD Drive or Directory>@<Track No> :dvdnav-caching=7000 --sout-ffmpeg-keyint 16 -I dummy --dummy-quiet --one-instance VLC:quit

C:\DVDs>C:\Progra~1\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=2048,i
nterlace,acodec=mp2a,ab=128,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url
="\\192.168.1.6\c\DVDs\Shameless\Season 2\Shameless - Season 2 - Episode 2.mpg"}} dvdsimple://DAngry4 :dvdnav-caching=7000 --sout-ffmpeg-keyint 16 -I dummy --dummy-quiet --one-instance VLC:quit

I think gbpvr is the best i have seen and my misses can use it too..

Cheers

Bump, because VLC worked very for me recording DVDs into Mpeg-2 for playback using MVP. I did it just like Uncle B. said above. Thanks!

Now I don't have to hunt for my workout video disks, or worry that they will get scratched.

one thing i had to do for the latest version of Daemon tools was to change the .bat file for mvpmakeiso.bat or what ever it is in the root gbpvr install to c:\progra~1\daemon~1 from d-tools so it could find the daemon.exe

but i'm currently having trouble actually viewing the stream..it starts transcoding i can see the dvd.mpg file growing on the hdd but nothign happens Sad
