Hi guys,

I've been searching the web for an alternative to Media Centre for ages and just came upon this site! - I like the fact that this software is compatible with loads more PVR cards that the MS product!!! but was wondering if ....

To be a truely functional 'Media PC', will GB-PVR support Web Cameras for basic video conferencing (messenger style) (Does it do this already??) - It would be nice to have a video to video link via the TV instead of the PC!

Is this a silly request or do other people have a need for it like I do???

Regards

I could see a use for viewing a webcam - security, baby monitoring etc.. but for me video conferencing wouldn't be practical.

The reason I got my MVP is to watch the content on my PC which is on another floor of the house. So to video conference I'd need to extend my cam's usb cable (and in my case the mic's one as well).

security and baby monitoring would work as additional channel in live-tv, when the camera is connected to a video-in.

the video-conferencing-thing would be nice as plugin. i think, in the near future, we will have a few im-plugins (icq, msn-messenger, skype....). so you can use your video-conferencing-software with gb-pvr.

Hey pretorian,

I was actually wondering about this as well. I am setting up a webcam at home and thought it would be cool to be able to view a live stream through GBPVR. I'm going to write the software to use it so I might ask Sub if there are any options open to us,

cheers,
Colin.

I have had a shareware webcam app for years called SpyCam (single shots, not streaming).  It has a simple DDE interface that I suspect would not be hard to operate via GBPVR.  Feel free to have a look and ask any questions.

Also, the next thing on my plate is a  Msn Messenger Plugin once I tweak the weather plugin a little.  I am currently experimenting with a library that I found to handle the communications to the MSN Messenger server and I am having some issues.  Once that's resolved the rest should be fairly straightforward. Though I'm not sure it will do video conferencing right away.  In fact, thinking about that more I can almost guarantee it will not do video conferencing right away as I don't know of a way to get the video window on the screen (plus I don't think the library currently supports it).

Wow, things move quick around here. Just catching up on the thread before work!

I installed GB-PVR last night, but it looks like my LifeView TV card is not supported! - Oh well, guess I will have to buy a Hauppage instead!

As I progress with the Home Theatre project I will be contributing threads and money to GB-PVR in the very near future!!!

Cant wait to try the spycam interface! [Image: smile.gif]

Catch you all later!

Keep up the good work!
