Being a new user (just this past weekend!) I'm curious how often this software is updated for bug fixes. There are a couple in the current release that are of particular annoyance to me and have already been fixed for the next release.

Also, I'm a huge user of other free/open source software and I fully understand that 1) I'm not paying for this, but will likely get a donation out to sub and 2) it's not the author's full time job.

So, I'm in no way asking for an update as if I'm somehow "entitled" to it. Just curious is all.

I typically do a public release about every 2 months. I usually follow this up with a maintenance release a week or so later to fix various bugs introduced with the public release.

Below is the list of things I've fixed/changed so far for this maintenance release:

Quote:2006-2-xx v0.96.x
- Fixed a bug with remembering the aspect ratio with VMR7
- Fixed a bug with pressing the left arrow twice on the quality setting of the schedule recording screen.
- Fixed a bug on channels with AC3 audio.
- Fixed position of video inset window for VMR7.
- Fixed a bug that could result in two video files (or dvds) playing at the same time.
- Fixed a bug that could cause reoccurring manual recordings to be deleted during the EPG update.
- Added option to config.xml to have video also obey the overscan settings. Previously this only applied to the menus etc.
- Fixed a bug which could cause the mouse clicks to not register on OSD buttons.
- Fixed a bug with identifying mouse click locations when in fullscreen mode and overscan values are non zero.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused small square boxes to appear of the left of the teletext screen
- Fixed a bug that could cause the MVP to keep streaming net radio stations after the MVP was put into standby
- Fixed a couple of bugs related to using the FM radio plugin on a sub menu.
- A few speed and stability improvemnts for digital cards in live preview mode. These only apply when you are still using the default <BDAQuickPidSwitch>true</BDAQuickPidSwitch> setting.
- The needsRendering() method is no longer called when the music visualizations are fullscreen
- More improvements to the MVP client

Just wondering if you have looked at channel change on the MVP in live tv mode, IMHO it is not reliable. Channel change in live tv mode on the PC has no problems that I have seen.

I am really impressed with 96.08, really really good work! Thank you!

No, this is not something I've looked at.

What exactly is happening?

Can you reproduce the problem, then zip and attach a set of logs, and description of the sequence of events.

In live tv mode on the MVP only,a channel change will often cause the audio/video to loop continuously for the couple of seconds prior to the channel change request. Sometimes the channel will change and the new channel will display but the video will have little squares over areas of movement in the video, the squares do not clear up. I would say one in four channel changes are normal. If it loops it can be cleared by changing to another channel until it changes normally, but changing to a channel that looped will cause it again to loop.
The effect is similar to what i have seen for instance when I watch live tv and an scheduled recording starts, the video loops.
Logs seem to indicate it is waiting for file data when the stream is changed.

I have not changed drivers or anything, just upgraded to 96.08.

On a side note, I saw a couple of instances where pre recorded video (95.16) had the squares / artifacts on the first few seconds of playback in 96.08.

The behaviour does not occur when watching on the PC, only on the MVP with dongle.bin.

I rarely use live tv but I did notice this, I did not mention because I thought others already pointed it out in the Announcement section. Hope the logs help, look for activity today 02/28.

Interesting. I have seen the described behaviour but I assumed that it was due to a slightly weak signal such that the MVP wasn't able to correctly display the frame until good data arrived.

Having said that, recordings are pretty much ok which suggests that it's not a signal issue.

What bit of the logs suggests waiting for file data and I can compare mine?

David.

Yeah, it is normal to have a lot of those messages when watching live tv. Its a problem if the file size isnt getting bigger.
