How about the ability to spawn an external program either before or after a recording takes place?

What I would like to do, is run a small batch file before and after a recording to send me an e-mail or even an SMS message indicated the start, end (or failure) of a recording.

(I'm assuming that I would be able to pass command-line arguments to the external program.)

I could see this being useful when I'm out of town and it would be nice to know that the recordings are happening as they're supposed to.

I ultimately envision an application that might scan the finished mpeg file and send a couple of sample frames in an e-mail. (with a gmail account, this wouldn't severly bog down a server)

ive recorded a lot of programs with gbpvr, and ive only ever had one failure, so cant you just trust gbpvr to do what its suppose to it, chances are it will.

That's not the point.

What about using the hook to spawn an external divx/xvid compressor to crunch a program to a smaller size for later viewing and save disk space?

Or spawning a batch file that copies the program to some other disk space on your lan?

And yes, I agree that GB-PVR is pretty solid. But what about power failures? When I'm out of town, it might be nice to know when something _didn't_ happen so I can possibly re-schedule the recording for a later broadcast.
