Are there any plans to convert GBPVR to a full client server model a la Myth TV? I think this functionality is critical to PVR softwares future as it maximises hardware rather than requiring a full blown powerfull server to make use of all possible PVR features with HDTV. Combined with MVP usage this would be a very powerfull feature and unique for Windows, additionally it would assist in supporting GBPVR running as a client for PC use - a much requested feature.

Any thoughts?

No, I have no plans to support PC clients in the near future. Its just not something that interests me.

You can already have MVP clients, and these already run in a full client/server mode.

And I think there are people working on MVP software clients i.e. an MVP client that runs on a PC. Which while not al la MythTv, would possibly be pretty similar option.

But these software MVP clients are not a sub run inititive.

Yes, there is. Works a bit crap for live tv though. Recordings are fine.

Reven wasnt referring attempted MVP PC client, but rather the couple of changes that can be made to config.xml on a client PC to use a server on another machine. This generally works well, but live tv is a bit crap.

What about supporting "external recording devices?" Personally, I'd like to take my DViCO card and put it in a box all by its lonesome to do the recording but I'd still like to be able to have GBPVR "control" the card and be aware of the shows that are recorded. (Kinda mad scientist I know...)

When you say "live tv" did you actualy mean timeshifted TV? Or true "Live TV" mode. I was only able to the the "server/client" thing to work with Timeshifted mode. I didn't think the quality is that bad. But I'm not running hi-res but it seem to work.

One other point, even though you dont support the server/client (except the MVP) I'm really impressed at how flexable and stable GBPVR has been, and how much support you have given users, who do try it anyway.

Thanks
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.

There is already an External Recorder Plugin that will handle what you want.
