MyVideos slow startup

I've been trying to get the setup of gb-pvr just right for some time now. One thing that has been bugging me is the slow startup time of gb-pvr after I install the myvideos plugin. When I look at the logs, I see:

It takes about half a minute for it to figure out that there are no updates needed. Does anybody know which updates these are and if it could be turned off or made faster?
Also, the errors I believe are because of missing items in my skin (these were with the blue skin. Am I maybe missing some files?

ignore those errors.

its just making sure the database is up to date.

Errors will be ignored.
Is there any way to skip the db checks or speed them up (I have no msoffice on the system, so no special access drivers) or does this become irrelevant in the new version?

It slows down for me when the DB starts getting too big. I have to manually clean out cast and actor info, and then compact. It goes back to normal speed after that. I tried to diable by making it unable to write to the tables (eg, adding validation to fields that wouldn't allow new input), but it threw errors.
