I had the same issue before, see http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=10709

Sub does not have access to HD signal, so it is hard for him to support it. I basically gave up using GBPVR for HD, I programmed my remote to switch between GBPVR and FusionHDTV using a script, it takes few seconds but works fine. All my recordings are done in FusionHDTV.

I am curious to know if the latest release is any different. Also if anyone tried BeyondTV or SageTV with this card, how good is the support.

Are you referring to the new version of GBPVR or the Fusion software?

I'm currently using the latest of both and things seem to be working just fine. The last time I tested it I had the quartz.dll issue (I always forget to replace that damned file after each rebuild...). I've replaced the file since then but I haven't tested the card yet.

@ Povarotti - Could you tell us what your GBPVR Playback Settings are? Just list all of them and we can take it from there.

Also, out of curiosity, is the Fusion the only card you have in your setup?

my primary htpc is a sff, asus pundit-r. (i also have a hauppauge 250 in another box, that runs the gbpvr mvp server as well for my wireless mvp -- this entire system works fine...no issues here)

inside the pundit-r are the fusion 5 lite, and a hauppauge 150. (i've had only the fusion 5 lite in there for a while trying to get it to work in gbpvr -- it works perfectly in the fusionHDTV app, but gave up today and threw the 150 back in too)

my playback settings, in large part gathered from information in this thread, are the zulu decoder, the cyberlink audio decoder, and my onboard soundmax digital audio.

any other pertinent settings i should list? i can't think of any...

oh, i'm using overlay instead of vmr9 -- both work, but i get occasional video 'tearing' using vmr9 so i tend to rely on overlay.

thanks,
pov.

I exclusively use GB-PVR for my F5L. My PC didn't even have FusionHDTV application. I just installed 5 necessary latest drivers.

My PC is old as you can see below. But GB-PVR works great. While playing 1080i, CPU is taxed around 50% using NVIDIA purevideo decoder and overlay. If I use VMR9 in full screen then tearing occurs.

Well, based off of my experience, I'd say overlay is the problem. I've never been able to get the F5 to work properly in Overlay Mode with the Zulu BDA driver. Now that I think about it I may have even experienced the same crashes you've reported in overlay mode.

What are the specs of your video card? Underpowered video cards will exhibit tearing (acegolfer's MX440, my old ATI 7000 for example) in VMR9 mode which puts you in a difficult position. I'd say try testing the stability of the F5 in VMR9 despite the quality issues just to see if the box will stop crashing.

Slightly OT EDIT: One more thing I'd like to point out to anyone following this thread. When making performance and quality comparisons between the Fusion app and GBPVR, keep in mind that each app uses a different driver to control the card. The Fusion app uses the WDM driver which is FAR MORE advanced that the BDA spec driver GBPVR has to use. The WDM driver is DViCO's proprietary driver which sub is unable to get access to without DViCO coughing up some trade secrets. So, in a nutshell, such comparisons are apples to oranges. Make sense?

Now I'm intrigued. Are you using the Zulu video decoder? I see that your motherboard has an SiS chipset. I wonder if perhaps the nforce2 chipset is to blame for this.

Since I didn't install FusionHDTV application, my PC doesn't even have Zulu decoder. I'm using Nvidia DVD decoder. I don't have any other MPEG2 decoder in my system. I recently had XP clean installed to save space for HDTV recording.

Before I reinstalled XP, I couldn't use Zulu DxVA decoder in programs other than FusionHDTV. My guess is Zulu DxVA decoder only works with Dvico application but I can be wrong.

Regarding SiS chipset vs nForce2, I'm clueless.

Actually, yes I have. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to develop any consistent test results. My PVR USB2 is having issues and now my Audio/Video sync is screwy. All things being equal the DViCO card works well in my new setup but I'm fighting too many other issues to truly feel comfortable with my test results.

Pov, try forcing GBPVR to use timeshift mode instead of live TV. That was the only way I could use the F5 USB version in GBPVR. If I tried to watch Live TV, I could watch it initially, but if I changed channel or exited to the main menu and then tried to watch it again, the computer would blue screen with a IRQ error.

Just thought I would chime in. I have the Fusion5 Lite and have been tinkering with settings trying to get the best performance and quality for a few days. I have somewhat smooth playback now with the Zulu decoder using VMR7, but I have a PVR500 for the non-hd cable channels and the Zulu decoder doesn't do great for playback of those channels (I am assuming if Zulu is selected it's used for more then just BDA devices).

Is there a way to get around this? I tried Nvidia, Intervideo decoders and HDTV channels become very choppy in Overlay, VMR7, or VMR9. Maybe I am asking too much.
