If you are refering to the MVP tab, it only applies if you are using the Hauppauge MediaMVP. MVP is a remote A/V output device.

With respect to MPEG encoding,
P frame is a motion prediction frame which only contains motion changes since the previous frame hence is a form of data compression.
B frame is a bi-directionally referenced motion meaning it is the motion difference between the last frame and the next frame hence provides more data compression than a P frame.
P and B frames are part of the MPEG encoding, and hence your TV capture card encoder usually has configurable settings for how many B and P frames you can have before you need a complete reference "I" frame. The ATI550 is user configurable for these settings. The video card does not have these settings.

Would these settings be a good place to start for my 9660? My playback is OK. The picture is still a bit fuzzy. Thanks.

Yes I use ChrisTweak. I think it is very valuable for ATI550 users.

DVD control functions are controlled by the DVD navigator. My only recommendation is to use matching navigator and decoders. I use the Cyberlink navigator and decoders with no problems ff/rw. I sorry but I can't help you with this problem, except to recomend experimenting.

lingenfr - the primary purpose of changing the B/P frame encoding is to reduce studdering, but it will also have a subtle improvement in sharpness, but not great and probably not worth the expence of additional file size. Lack of sharpness is commonly caused by poor scaling and poor deinterlacing. If you are now using hardware temporal/spatial (also known as vector adaptive) deinterlacing, then the problem is more likely to be a scaling problem. Best video performance is with zero scaling, ie set screen resolution to 720x576 for PAL or 720x480 for NTSC. This however makes the screen a lot more difficult to use as a normal computer.

Edit:
For those ATI550 users the sharpness can be improved by setting the recording bitrate higher (at the expense of file size of course). I personally use VBR 8Meg/12Meg. If you are using encoder pass-through, then you need to edit that rate manually in the direct.ini This produces very high quality recordings which I then transcode to H.264/AVC which reduces file size but retains the high quality.

Now I'm having a different problem:

Setting ForceHighPriority to true will reset all settings made in config.xml thus ForceHighPriority will not become effective.

when you say dvd functions controlled by the dvd navigator, do you have the cyberlink dvd player installed on your system and is there a file called dvd navigator or where would i find it in gbpvr. Im using the nvidia decoder b/c i have a 6600 card and live tv is very good but if your suggesting to try the cyberlink i could install the dvd player and use that decoder if the decoder is available in the gbpvr options for decoders. its very strange i can watch the dvd with no problems until i skip or rrw or ffw. 1 more question, is there a way of launching gbpvr from the cyberlink remote?

Thanks you so much for your support so far.

GBPVR has a default DVD navigator, however some users have problems with it. I recommend configuring gbpvr DVD playback tab to use matching brand navigator and decoders. The navigator is a file in 3rd party DVD players (same as the decoders) which gbpvr leverages off. So if you are using the Cyberlink decoders, I recommend having PowerDVD installed, then in gbpvr config>DVD tab>Navigator> select Cyberlink Navigator.
