Thanks to all that have helped so far. I think the config pages are starting to look good. But there are a few more items that I'd like some concise documentation style answers for...

Use short skip instead of FW/RW
Is there a difference?

Show closed captions (Intervideo/VMR7/VMR9)
What is the significance having this option?

Enable Teletext

Capture subtitles to SRT file (requires Teletext)

Enable internal SRT viewer

I'm in Canada. I haven't the foggiest what Teletext is, or SRT...

BDA Multiplexor
What is it / What is it for?
Why would we want DVR-MS instead of the native Mpeg2?

Wake Machine
"If the computer is asleep when it’s time to update the EPG, it will wake it up."
Really? How does it do this, through the BIOS, what special consideration should one make when using this feature?

That may be it, or at least for a bit.

Thanks in Advance,
Frank

I can answer a few of your questions.

zehd Wrote:Use short skip instead of FW/RW

Yes. Short skip is exactly that. Its skip's a short amount, say 30sec, forward instead of playing back the file at an increased speed. I find it works better. to "skip". FF And RW seem to confuse GBPVR or the MVP. One time I was doing alot of FW and it it didnt' stop.

Does it really matter if it works? As I understand the wake feature it does use the real time clock to wake the PC but the feature does need to be supported in BIOS. If I'm wrong somone please correct me.
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

Quote:Show closed captions (Intervideo/VMR7/VMR9)
What is the significance having this option?
There is some very simplistic support for viewing US style Closed Caption information, but it will only work if this setting is enabled and the user is using a PVR250 or PVR350, VMR and the Intervideo decoder. This causes it to show the typical roll up type CC used in the US.

Quote:Enable Teletext
Teletext is a stream of textual stream of information that is transmitted alongside with channels in many parts of the world (not USA). It's data is carried in the Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI) part of the channel's video. In the USA the VBI is used for transmitting Closed Caption information.

Teletext is transmitted as a series of pages. These pages carry info like news, tv listings, betting info, ads etc. Some of these pages can also be dedicated to carrying subtitles, with the page updated each time a new subtitles needs to be displayed.

Quote:Capture subtitles to SRT file (requires Teletext)
This setting is used to record subtitles while recording TV shows. The subtitles are recorded to the supported SRT text file format.

For SRT capture to work, teletext need to be enabled, and the teletext page numbers entered in the capture source channel list - which shows an addition 'subtitle page' column when this setting is enabled.

Quote:Enable internal SRT viewer
This determines if GB-PVR will show SRT subtitles during file playback. These SRT files may have been produce by GB-PVR or something else, so it is not directly tied to the above two settings.

You can see some screenshots of Teletext here: http://teletext.mb21.co.uk/gallery/

Quote:BDA Multiplexor
What is it / What is it for?
Why would we want DVR-MS instead of the native Mpeg2?
The multiplexer is used with BDA capture devices when recording. Its job is to take the separate in audio and video streams and combine them into a format that can be written to disk. These are typically one of two different formats - either .mpg or .dvr-ms depending on the mux selected.

The dvr-ms mux is slightly more resilient to glitches in the stream, and also seems to work better with ATSC HDTV, but produces a .dvr-ms file instead of .mpg.

So If I understand it correctly, Wake Machine will not start the computer from a dead off, only hybernate/standby.

And to do this, something is still running in memory; watching the CMOS clock to reactivate the computer at a designated time...

In General, (only general,) is it GB-PVR or Windows that is the 'something'?

OK. I think I've got it. I think I was confused because I thought GBPVR somehow got into the BIOS clock, so it could start from 'off'.

How about this?

Wake Machine

If the computer is asleep (Hybernate or Standby only), when it's time to update the EPG or record a program, GB-PVR will wake it up.

That's how I use it Wink (Not sure about the EPG part because I update the XML-file manually.)

Thanks everyone. What a team!

I'm taking a break for a bit (a short bit) and then I'll be back to finish the config pages.

Check out what I have, especially the 'misc' page. It's finally got some meat on it...
