Computer doesn't talk to Emuzed Maui III-G card.

I just bought a used Emuzed Maui III-G card. It didn't come with the CD or anything; just the card. I downloaded and installed the driver; it installed fine. But I don't see a picture when I try to capture video with the card. I at least get some indication the card is there when I run Adobe Premiere: The program recognizes the driver as an option under Video for Windows, but does not actually communicate with the card. I think it recognizes that I have a driver for the card installed, but it isn't talking to the card itself.

I have the full Maui III-G, which includes the RCA inputs. Those are the connections I'm trying to use.

The card appears to be some kind of lower-profile PCI format. It fits the slot perfectly in my computer, and all the conductors line up, but it's a bit smaller than the overall PCI slot. According to the documentation for the card, that should be fine.

Did you install the native MovieMill software to make sure the card actually works?

You say you can't capture...do you mean with GBPVR?

What are the setting you are using in your GBPVR direct.ini file?

With my Emuzed Maui III-G card, GB-PVR doesn't want to recognize the video input unless I "initialize" the Maui III-G card first -- I say "initialize" because that's how I refer to the process . . . I'm not sure why I have to do this, but if I start up Movie Mill and view my video source through that application first, then exit Movie Mill, GB-PVR will work fine with the Maul III-G card. If I don't do this after I reboot, my GB-PVR timers will go off as usual in the background, but the resultant file will contain no video and just noise for the audio portion. If I start up GB-PVR after a reboot WITHOUT "initializing" the card using the Movie Mill application first, GB-PVR will give me a message like "video source not present" if I try to watch live TV.

Weird problem -- the work-around is easy enough, but I wish GB-PVR would properly initialize the card on its own, without the need for me to manually "initialize" the card using Movie Mill first.

Anybody else have any similar problems with Emuzed (or other) cards?

It sounds like a driver bug to me. There is nothing GB-PVR is supposed to do to initialize the device - this is supposed to happen automatically behind the scenes in the drivers.

Surely I'm not the ONLY person to encounter this issue with the Emuzed Maui III-G card, am I?

Yeah I agree, but I cant think of what that would be. I'm not aware of anything I'm supposed to be doing. I treat all cards the same - this one is supposed to just work, in the same way that other cards do.

The may be doing some special magic to reinitialise the card, but this definitely isnt anything standard, any not something I'm aware of the details of.

I dont remember ever seeing this with my Maui III PAL. I never had Movie Mill installed, but I had audio and video when just using it with GB-PVR.

Good news (for me, anyway) -- I think I solved my problem!

While playing around last night, I went into GB-PVR Configuration and edited my capture source -- in Direct Recording Configuration I checked the Only show devices detected in this machine checkbox, and that solved my initialization problem. Previously I had selected my Emuzed Maui III-G card from the pull-down list in the Capture Card Type box, but with this configuration I was still having problems with GB-PVR not "initializing" the card; as I mentioned in my earlier posts, I would have to lauch Movie Mill, view my TV source there, then close Movie Mill and launch GB-PVR, otherwise, GB-PVR would not be able to identify a capture source, and when a scheduled event would launch in the background, the captured video would be blank, and the audio feed would just be static.

After firing up GB-PVR configuration and simply clicking the Only show devices detected in this machine checkbox, I was able to launch GB-PVR and go directly to "Live TV" and -- VIOLA! -- there was video! This was after a fresh reboot, so I know I hadn't previously "initialized" my capture card using Movie Mill.

VERY exciting progress for me -- now all that remains is to make sure that events scheduled with the Recording Service go off without the need to "pre-initialize" the capture card using Movie Mill (which is what I had been doing previously -- I don't leave my computer on 24/7, BTW . . . I usually turn it on when I get home from work, and then let it do whatever captures I have scheduled for that evening . . . and whenever I would forget to "visit" my capture card to "initialize" it with Movie Mill prior to a scheduled event, I would always get a blank recording with black video and just static for audio).

I'll report back once I'm certain the scheduled events are now working, too.
