Installation Problems with PVR-150

After reading through tons of threads, I realize that I am probably not as advanced as most people on this forum. That being said I would be extremely grateful for some help.

I just bought a hauppauge pvr-150 and tried to install it. I am running windows XP. Despite the horrible installation manual provided with the card, the installation seemed to work. When I started the Win TV application it ran a channel scan and found all of my stations. I am hooked up directly from my cable to my pc. After I ran the channel scan, one station appeared on the screen. When I changed the channel on Win TV, that same station appeared on the screen, the channel didn't change.

Do I need to change some setting? Can I not hook the cable up directly from the wall to my computer?

Additionally, I can't get the remote to do ANYTHING. Any suggestions?

Again, I apologize for being on a totally different level than most users. I usually consider pretty computer proficient until I read some of these threads.

Most of the people here are not wintv users (we use gbpvr instead), so I'm not sure you'll get much help with your problem here. Try posting your question about channel changing over at shspvr.com... Or install GBPVR

Can I not hook the cable up directly from the wall to my computer?

If you can hook it up directly to your tv (not needing a set top box) then you should be able to hook it up directly to your pvr-150.

Additionally, I can't get the remote to do ANYTHING. Any suggestions?

Your drivers aren't installed properly for the PVR-150. Happened to me as well. You need to uninstall the drivers / all hauppauge related programs then use hcwclear.exe. After that follow the instructions on the hauppauge site:

It's kind of a messed up way to install drivers. First you install the "base driver" and then you install the driver update or what they call the "middleware".

After that you should be able to install WinTV etc and verify that channels can be changed. If you can't change channels in WinTV you won't be able to change them in GBPVR -- I had the same problem when I got my card last week! Also, verify in WinTV2000 that your channels are in STEREO (should say near the bottom if it's mono/stereo/sap). If they all say MONO then you may have to try different driver versions till one works properly...unless you're happy with mono sound.
