rmvb playback

New to this forum. Can anyone help me with how I can play back .rmvb files on my MVP ?

Also how can I get gbpvr MVP to show .rmvb files in my list of videos ?

Any thought are much appreciated.

I dont actually know anything about .rmvb files, but I doubt you'll be able to make GB-PVR play them on the MVP - sorry.

I don't have much of an understanding for transcoding files, but I was wondering if ffmpeg would be able to transcode an rmvb (which is a realmedia variable bitrate file) just like it would transcode an avi file to mpeg2 ? or am I all confused about transcoding avi's to mpeg2 ? I also read in a thread that .rm extensions were added.

So I tried running "ffmpeg.exe -y -i input.rmvb -b 2400 -s 352x288 -vcodec output.mpg" and got an "I/O error occured"

Guess I'm still curious whether it's possible to do the transcoding of realmedia files to mpeg2.

Currently it'll only try to use ffmpeg for .avi files. All other (non mpg) file types use GBPVRConvert.exe which relies on directshow being able to cope with the particular file type.
