Recordings stop writing to disk...

Title says it all really, the last two nights I have had scheduled recordings that just stop writing to disk during the program - instead of an hour, I got 25 mins last night and 35 mins tonight.

There's plenty of hard disk space left, there is nothing in the logs that looks abnormal, nothing in the windows event logs, the recording service was showing that it was recording for the correct duration each time, but the files just stoped being updated.

I'm using a Nova-t PCI in a lowly Athlon 1.4Ghz machine, but it's recorded properly most time up until now (odd glitches now and again playing back the files, but no major problem). Using GBPVR version 0.94.13

Any ideas?

TIA,
Dave

Maybe a glitch in signal strength? You could try a different mux. I dont have first hand experience with the problem, but some have indicated the DVR-MS mux doesnt handle signal dropout well. What mux are you currently using?

With analog cards, IRQ conflicts can cause cards to stop producing data mid way through recordings. I'm not sure but similar things could be happening with DVB cards.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm currently using the CyberLink mux, I tried the others, but found that I got best quality/ reliablity with that one.

The signal strength looks fairly consistent, but the card does suffer a bit from electrical interference - switching on a another applicance nearby sometimes causes the tv to freeze for a second or two - maybe that's what has happened.

Wouldn't there be something in the logs if the signal was lost?

I'll try the other muxes - does the Transport Stream option work for dvb-t cards? Guess I'll find out in a minute. Big Grin

Cheers.

No. GB-PVR effectively tells the drivers to start recording, then doesnt talk to again until the recording is due to finish. There will be nothing useful recorded in the log between these two points.

That option is really just for my testing. You wont be able to play back these recording in GB-PVR.

I had more success with the dvr-ms format, in that it did record for the entire length of the program, but the audio quality on playback is noticably poorer (periodic skips, sounds kind of echo-y) than recordings with the CyberLink mux.

I'll have a further play with the settings and see if I can sort this out.

Thanks for the pointers (and keep up the good work - I'm impressed by how responsive you are for a "hobby" project!)

Cheers,
Dave
