General plugin question -- customizable key mapping?!?

i have not written any plugins so excuse my naiveness, but i notice that plugins seem to have all key mapping hard-coded. is this by design or a limitation of the plugin framework? all of the native GBPVR modules have customizable key mapping.

it would be nice to be able to customize these mappings (mainly for remote purposes) for preference and for consistency between plugins and similar software.

The key mapping stuff was only introduced to GBPVR recently, and the plugin developers havnt all implemented this yet. Some have started. I think reven now does it in his plugins.

i see. i guess i haven't been around long enough to know that history.

one approach i thought of to get around this would be for GBPVR to append the module name to the titlebar text. For instance when GBPVR is started i believe the titlebar says "GB-PVR". When in LiveTV, if the titlebar said "GB-PVR: LiveTV" then remote software that keys on the titlebar text (i'm using a hauppagge setup) could be configured to use a different button mapping. similarly with the plugins: "GB-PVR: My Music", etc.

maybe it is not do-able. just a thought.
