Anyone else have this problem? Ever since I have connected my MVP I can no longer see PC's in my workgroup. I can access them by IP, or by \\{servername}\shared dir but not when browsing. It's not a big deal, but I am not thrilled about it either.

When I have had similar problems (totally unrelated to any MVP, though) I managed to make them go away by fiddling with the NetBIOS settings. I think I had to set it to "enable" (not sure, though). Open your local area network properties dialog. Choose Internet protocol (tcp/ip)->properties->advanced->WINS
I'm not always right

Install the NWLink IPX/SPX protocol on each machine. This is a common problem on an IP network with no domain controller to resolve the computer names.

You might also want to make sure that the Computer Browser service is started on at least one system (assuming it's 2000 or XP).

Well, it seems I needed to do a little registry hacking. The Computer Browser Service was set to auto but wasn't starting for some reason. The registry options are Auto, Yes, and No. I set it to "Yes" and now the service starts automatically and fixes my problem. I did WinXP updates at about the same time as installing my MVP so I am sure it was an MS update that mucked things up.

Thanks all for your replies!

BTW, the registry key to edit is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList

YES! That registry hack fixed it for me, too.

Thanks for passing it along.

You're probably right...an MS Update probably hosed it...
