About a quarter of my recordings have stuffed sound. The whole show sounds like a WW1 machine gun! It not being consistent makes trouble shooting pretty hard but wonder if anyone else has any ideas.

Do you know if its the recording or the playback that is the problem? ie, do the recordings sound the same even if you use a different player?

Does the same in Windows Media Player so guess it has to be the recording. Did three more test records today and all were fine!

I've got the same problem with my PVR500.
It's on both tuners, there is this machinegun sound.
I did some testing to check if the hardware is faulty (as I bought the PVR last week and never got it working).
Got the hint to try the PVR150 drivers so I installed these (Latest application and driver updates on the hauppauge support page). With these drivers I also installed the wintv2000 application and that is working like a charm!
It's also possible to pause the liveTV and watch the mpeg2 stream. Sound is perfect here!

So far I've tried the pvr500, pvr150 and pvr150 MCE as device in gb-pvr but none are working Sad

That old machine gun is distinctive, eh? Strange that it is totally consistent right through the recording. Don't know enough to even hazard a guess as to what could cause it. But since the last bad one I have done around 7 good records so really am puzzled. Hope you get some help with your problems.

I'm a happy gb-pvr for some time.

My setup was always, 1 GB-PVR-350 - 1 GB-PVR250.

I didn't have a PCI slot available, so decided to swap the 250 for a PVR-500. giving me 1 extra tuner.

Since I downloaded the beta upgrade for the PVR-500 driver, it also has a machine gun sound in the recordings.. I did try to downgrade, even using hauppage's hwclear, but the problem stays.

If I record using the 350 it works fine.

The pvr-500 card is the one with FM radio, without remote, so the retail version.

Yeah, that sounds pretty nasty. All I can guess is that this is some bug in the Hauppauge drivers, and try some different versions to see if it goes away.

I did some more testing and found a workaround for 1 of the tuners.
With the most recent PVR150 drivers I also installed wintv2000. What I did was:
- start wintv2000
- when a recording kicks in wintv2000 will tune to the right frequency and
sound during recording is ok.
- stop wintv2000, next recordings are ok.

This only works for 1 tuner so far (didn't look into the second tuner yet).

What I during testing also noticed is that recordings without signal, so just static, are ok. The machinegun is also absent.

Are there more users with a PVR500 that don't have the machinegun? Am wondering which version of the hauppauge drivers they use.

There are lots of user that dont have this. Infact this is only the first post I've seen mention the problem.

I'm using v2.0.30.23083 drivers on my PVR150, and v2.0.18.22316 on my PVR500. Neither exhibit this problem, but the problem may only be limited to some tuner models.

Found and installed the v2.0.18.22316 drivers. This results in no machinegun, but have to start wintv2000 before I get sound on tuner1. Unfortunately there is no way to trigger tuner2 in wintv2000.

Could it be that my card is a little different and requires a register to be changed which wintv2000 does, but gbpvr doesn't?

are you interested in the "prodinfo" output?
