Hi I am interested in how you have set up your player and how it works?

Do you have the same interface as on the server?
or do you use explorer or webinterface?
are the recordings made on the server or on the player and saved to the servers harddisk?

is the celeron fast enough?

Any specific problems when fitting in a VCR-box?

The player is set up as a network client as described in this thread. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ght=client

Basically you have two installations of GBPVR reading one common database.

jasjol Wrote:Do you have the same interface as on the server? or do you use explorer or webinterface?

It is a normal GBPVR GUI on both. On the player you can navigate through recordings and the guide just as you would on a 'normal' installation, its just that it is reading this information across a LAN from the server's mdb file.

I never got around to trying 'live TV'.

jasjol Wrote:are the recordings made on the server or on the player and saved to the servers harddisk?

All recording are made by and stored on the server. This machine is on 24x7. The player is only turned on for playback which it streams across the LAN.

Seems to be fast enough. More is always better, but there seem to be a number of users succesfully running PIII 1000MHz machines also. I am not usually a Celeron fan but they are just geat value for money these days.

I was actually looking for a AMD 2400+ but after building a few at work I was suprised how hot they ran (~45C) compared to the servers P4-2.0GHz. (~25C) so that swayed me towards the Intel.

Not really-it was just a lot of work. I had to slim down the power supply quite a lot which meant taking it of of it's standard box. there are 2 extra fans to help air move through. All fans including CPU run on 5V to keep the noise down. I would rather it ran a bit cooler but it is safely below the limit. There is no room for a DVD drive to that is mapped across the LAN also. I had to use an Gigabyte FX5200 half height card as a full height would never fit.

The photos give some idea of how squeezy it all is.

I am actually thinking of moving away from the server/player set up to having just one machine. There is so much other junk on the server that I have occasional stability problems.
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.
