I don't think that an an old card such as the 9600 contributes anything. Only the latest ATI cards can assist with AVIVO transcoding.

When I first created this thread, the ati encoder was very fast but i was not so sure about the quality. Then I started getting huge files when I converted. I just tested again with the version that I have installed and it doesn't appear especially quick anymore so something is broken on my system.

I'm new to GBPVR (and the whole encoding/decoding scene) so please bear with me. I have recently setup an HTPC using the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H, which has a x1250 as graphics. I have a 4200+ X2, 2GB of RAM, and a PVR-150 tv tuner.

First question is what do I need to do to fully utilize AVIVO for playback?

1. I assume I install the AVIVO complete package from the official website and a decoder option will appear in the playback config menu?
2. If (1) from above is correct, choosing AVIVO decoder for DVD playback should be beneficial too?
3. If such an option does appear after the package is installed, what would the option be word by word?

Second question, to do transcoding with AVIVO, what is needed?

Regarding the playback part of your question, from what I've read you automatically get the ATI AVIVO features with any decoder that uses hardware acceleration (dxva). You dont need to install a specific AVIVO decoder. So for example, the Cyberlink decoder would make use of these features of your card.

Thank you Sub...so you are saying that AVIVO is implied when DXVA is enabled?

so what are some of the decoders out there that utilizes DXVA? I'm currently using the InterVideo decoder that came with the PVR150 installation for TV playback and the Cyberlink decoder (too long to be seen from the dropdown), but both suffers from some sort of ghosting when playing high movement video.

so I'm not sure what to do as i am quite lost in terms of managing decoders, configuring them ... etc

Lastly, though probably irrelavent to the decoder, my GB-PVR does things by itself ever so often, usually after long usage (for example, changes channels by itself, pop back to main menu, net radio stopping)

We've never seen another report of this before, so I dont really believe that. We did have a guy that found his wireless keyboard/mouse would occasionally generate keys or mouse clicks, which made him see think something similar.

Thanks again Sub...

I guess I'll continue to play around with the decoders until I find the perfect one.

Thanks!
