I have had some success in setting the software end up. I can get the TV Guide up, set recordings, record the correct channel and playback my recordings all fine, but I am struggling to make the Live TV feature work.

If I select the Live TV button on the MPV interface the screen changes to the last used channel and says "Buffering 0%" and then reverts back to the menu screen.

Can anyone throw some light on this? I have tried various settings and have searched without success for a manual of sorts so I don't end up asking dumb questions (this is the first of several! I am sorting issues one at a time.)

I have been using "Beyond TV" but this software is excellent. Well done to the author.

Do scheduled recordings work for you?

What type of capture device do you have?

Do you see a live tv file growing in you recordings directory?

Thanks for your reply. In order the answers are as follows:

Scheduled recordings are fine, right channel, right times etc. Perfect.

Hauppauge PVR350

Yes, a new "live tv" file is created every time, I now have six since I last deleted them, livetv-1-0 through to livetv-1-5.

You may want try bumping the "MVP Pre-Play delay setting up to two seconds. If that fixes, the problems start reducing the value to find a setting that works reliably for your setup.

This problem is now back, the mpeg file gets bigger, but no live TV through the MediaMPV even with the delay set to 2000ms.

Any suggestions anyone?

OK, I have identified the cause of the problem. The PC that hosts the GB-PVR server is under my stairs out of the way. I access it using remote desktop. If I start the server up under remote desktop the live TV does not work, but if I plug in a monitor, mouse and keyboard, it does.

All is well after I unplug the monitor, mouse and keyboard with the PC still running, but if it restarts, no live TV again....

I don't know the technical reasons for this, but if anyone can shed some light on it.....

It may be to do with VMR9. Try setting the render to overlay and try the exact same steps.

I think the problems is that if you run GBPVR with remote desktop, ie terminal session, it has its own kernel object space, different from the recording session, which run as service. I solved it by running GBPVR -mvpmode as a service, with srvany. Then both processes run in the same object space.

Good luck
