Is it possible to play music from the "Music Library" on the main server and all attached MVP's, at the same time.

My brother in-law (nice guy by the way) and I are installing a "Home Theatre" system in his house (high-end stuff) I demonstrated GBPVR to him and he was impressed. His question was can I pipe the music throughout the house??

The concept would be to access the music files via an RF remote from anywhere in the house and play it everywhere - through MVP'S.

do you mean play a track out of all the mvp's at the same time?

If this could work (i don;t have a mvp so I can';t confirm), you would get time differences between all the different devices, which would create an audio mess unless each room was acoustically isolated from one another.

If he is going high-end and you are only interested in audio, perhaps take a look at the squeezebox, it has high quality decoders and outputs on it.

I have hacked a solution to this for people on a budget:

1) Start music playing in one room.
2) Go to furthermost point in house - can you hear it?
3) If not, go back and turn it way up.

Sorry, a slow afternoon... Smile

Feed the output of one MVP to whatever amplifiers you need and distribute the audio via speaker wire. I would feed the MVP into a preamp where you could set volume for several outputs then attatch the amps at the preamp outs, speaker wire to the rooms. I don't have any suggestion for RF remote. Visual interface in each room would be do distribute the video to each room as well. Should work, just need to look into suitable preamp and video distribution boxes.
Would be simpler to have an MVP and AV gear in each room, could have different content playing in each room but I agree the sound would be a few ms off if the same content were played in adjoing rooms at the same time.

Hmmmmmmmm.............so the sound would be out of sync, nice reverb effect - eh??

BTW - the RF remote is not a problem, bought a URC 850 RF/IR - 20 device
remote.

Thanks

yeh - the tcp/ip protocol that is used to push the data(music) around, is not designed to deliver the data within a certain time.

It does all depend on whether you meant the same music to all rooms or different music to each room. (surely the later is more flexible)

Kind of along the same line, I know that Nightwalker uses a stereo modulator to pipe a couple of mvps into his home coax. You can set each MVP to broadcast on a different (not used) channel. Doing this, you will not have to deal with the sync issue since they are all coming off the same source. I would assume you can do this on the music side as well and play it off your TV sound system. I do not know the quality though. There are many different modulators out there with varying quality. I am looking to try this as soon as it can come to the top of my long list. I would love to know if anyone else has tried this.

That's exactly right. I do feed my mvp's thru stereo modulators, but beyond that they also hook into two sources of the whole house music system to allow music play in any room. Either one source or two at the same time. this way the TV's become nothing more than a user imput device when music is playing. It's far easier for the family to work from there than it is on the tiny keypads with no real user feedback.

I picked myself up a low powered FM transmitter (designed for listening to your mp3 player through the radio in your car) from ebay, so I can tune any radio in the house to my pvr... - This is probably not a viable option if you have a large area to cover...

well I hope it works better than the one i got - it sounds terrible, absolutely no bass at all and it is impossible to tune it to an unused frequency.

wife uses it in the car now.
