There is very little information on Audio with the GB PVR documentation/forums/wiki

Does GB-PVR directly control volume/mute?

Are there any other advanced audio controls available?

For example, I'd love to be able to enable a compressor, (to even out the whispers and gunshots).

I don't know whether that would be core, plugin, or external.

----

What I really want is to remove my clunky simulated 5.1 Receiver and get a dumb 5.1 system, and let my computer do all the sound filtering, echo/reverb, compressor and stuff, but don't know where to start looking for that info...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You can use FFDShow's audio codecs to accomplish what you want. Just do a forum search on FFDSHOW and you should find some hits.

Thanks for the reply, KingArgyle. I'll look at it...

I scanned about three pages of hits in the search, (preliminary) and think that the ffdshow is more of a post-pro tool rather than a real-time mixer. Is that right?

It mixes real time. As I use it to mix 2 channel stereo recordings to 5.1 AC-3 audio while playing back the recorded shows. This way I get my center channel voices. FFDShow Audio just kicks in during playback and processes the audio there. It also has a built in equalizer, and other audio tuning features. Pretty powerfull little app, and unlike it's video equivalant, not very resource intensive.

I checked out FFDshow on the forums and SourceForge.. and it appears I may not understand how it would work in context with what I was wishing for..

Basically, I was hoping that, within GBPVR, on any screen, I could invoke a mixer GUI where I could adjust volume levels, pan, perhaps reverb or sound effects, sound compression (even out the difference between whsipers and gun shots)

My computer has C-media built in sound (working ok so far) and I suppose I could 'somehow' invoke the c-media control panel applet, but I'm thinking it might be hard to control with a TV remote.

I might even be way off base asking you, but then nothing ventured nothing gained...

Thanks in advance for help...
